Last week The Star leaked news that David Mirvish woudl be demolishing The Princess of Wales to build condominiums with architect Frank Gehry. The theatre community was stunned, and many people are left wondering what this means for Toronto. Perhaps the real reason we should be angry however, is not because we're losing a theatre, but rather because of what this decision says about our commercial theatre industry as a whole. Toronto deserves better, and we have to choose not to settle for anything less than the very best.

According to the Toronto Star, David Mirvish and Frank Gehry are planning a 'culture and condo' complex in Toronto's Entertainment District that would involve demolishing the Princess of Wales theatre.
The Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts is simultaneously celebrating its 20th year, and has renovated the large theatre that is part of the Randolph Centre for the Performing Arts building. The Bathurst Street Theatre, located at 736 Bathurst St., will now be known as the Randolph Theatre, named after the President and Founder of the Academy, George C. Randolph Jr.
Rehearsals have begun for "Seminar," the sexy, smart new comedy starring Jeff Goldblum, an Academy Award and Emmy Award-nominee. "Seminar," by Pulitzer Prize finalist and "Smash" creator Theresa Rebeck and directed by Obie Award-winner Sam Gold, begins previews October 10 and opens October 17, 2012, at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre.
