Westport Country Playhouse will stage Moliere's timeless comedy, "Tartuffe," featuring in the title role three-time Tony Award-nominee Marc Kudisch (Broadway's "9 to 5," "The Apple Tree," "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," "Assassins," "Thoroughly Modern Millie," "Bells Are Ringing," "The Wild Party," "The Scarlet Pimpernel (3.0)," "High Society," "Beauty and the Beast," "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," and "A Minister's Wife."). David Kennedy, Playhouse associate artistic director, will helm the production playing July 17 through August 4. The work is translated by Richard Wilbur.

Joan Didion will be a guest at a Westport Country Playhouse Sunday Symposium today, June 17, following the 3 p.m. matinee performance of Ms. Didion's play, "The Year of Magical Thinking," based on her 2005 National Book Award-winning memoir. She will converse on the Playhouse stage with David Kennedy, Playhouse associate artistic director. The enhanced programming surrounding Westport Country Playhouse's production of the Stephen Sondheim/James Lapine musical "Into the Woods" will feature a Sunday Symposium reuniting four original cast members from the 1987 Broadway production, on Sunday, May 6, following the 3 p.m. matinee performance.
Westport Country Playhouse will host its third annual open house, "Playhouse Community Day," on Saturday, April 14, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering a wide variety of family activities, backstage tours, displays and historic artifacts, insight on the upcoming 2012 season and ticket discounts throughout the day. To provide more flexibility for patrons to attend theater, Westport Country Playhouse announced that "4-Play Seasonal Subscriptions," "Pick 3 Plans" and "FlexTix" for the 2012 season will go on sale Tuesday, January 3, at noon, joining the more traditional "5-Play Subscriptions" already available.
Michael Klingher of Weston was elected to chair Westport Country Playhouse's board of trustees' leadership at a recent annual meeting. Klingher succeeds Sandra DeFeo of Westport, who served as chair since 2008.
The touching romantic comedy, "Holiday," by Philip Barry, author of "The Philadelphia Story," will be read as part of the Script in Hand series at Westport Country Playhouse, on Monday, December 12, 7 p.m., directed by Anne Keefe, Playhouse artistic advisor.
