American Lyric Theater Announces Upcoming Season

American Lyric Theater (ALT), home to the nationally acclaimed Composer Librettist Development Program, has announced the 2011-2012 public performance season, featuring workshop performances of seven new operas by Resident Artists; as well as lectures and master classes with some of the country's leading operatic writers. While the majority of ALT's programs are dedicated to mentorship of gifted emerging composers and librettists, six public events will take place over the course of the season to introduce these writers, their work, and other exciting trends in American opera to New York City audiences.

At the half-way mark of their 36th annual SAMUEL FRENCH INC. OFF OFF BROADWAY SHORT PLAY FESTIVAL, Samuel French, Inc. announces the first seven plays that have moved on to the Finals to be held on Sunday, July 24th in four sessions beginning at 1:00 pm in the Lion Theatre at Theatre Row: Create Me A Pegasus by Amy E. Witting, Hanksylvania by Travis Helwig, Mountain Song by Josh Beerman, Pluck & Tenacity by Daniella Shoshan, Chun Li by Camilla Maxwell, The Painter by Stacy Osei-Kuffour and Bubble & Squeak by Evan Twohy.

Eighteen of the theatre industry's highly regarded playwrights, theatrical agents and artistic directors will jury the 40 short plays featured in the 36th Annual SAMUEL FRENCH INC. OFF OFF BROADWAY SHORT PLAY FESTIVAL beginning July 19th at the Lion Theatre on Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street). Six winners will be chosen to have their plays licensed and published by Samuel French, Inc.

The Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) is pleased to announce the extension of Galt MacDermot?s (HAIR) musical, The Human Comedy. With libretto by William Dumaresq based on the story by William Saroyan, the highly acclaimed production is directed by APAC Artistic Director Tom Wojtunik and music directed by Jeffrey Campos, reuniting IT Award Nominee Christine O?Grady as choreographer, IT Award Recipient Michael P. Kramer as set designer, Hunter Kaczorowski as costume designer, David A. Thomas as sound designer, and casting by wojcik|seay casting.
