Tacoma Musical Playhouse Presents FLOWER DRUM SONG 5/8

Tacoma Musical Playhouse is proud to present next on the mainstage the new adaptation of the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic, Flower Drum Song. Having fallen out of the standard musical theater repertoire during the civil rights era, the beautiful score and original story based on the novel by C.Y. Lee have been re-crafted by Asian-American playwright David Henry Hwang in a manner that has been commended by critics for making 'revolutionary and appropriate changes in handling the delicate racial themes' of the original script.

Cherry Lane Presents 'The Mentor Project' Through 5/29

Performance schedules for the three world-premiere Mentor Project plays have been announced by the Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St.), where the new plays STRAY by Ruth McKee, THE BELLE OF BELFAST by Nate Rufus Edelman and PATERNITY by Winter Miller will be performed this spring from March 16 to May 29.

Goodman Theatre Adds GOD OF CARNAGE To Upcoming Season, Opens 3/5/2011

Artistic Director Robert Falls announced today that the Chicago premiere of the Tony Award-winning God of Carnage, Yasmina Reza's 'savvy and deliciously caustic new comedy of urban ill-manners' (Chicago Tribune) and Broadway sensation, will take place at Goodman Theatre starting March 5, 2011.

East West Players Features CRIMES OF THE HEART, et. al. in 2010-2011

East West Players (EWP), the nation's premiere Asian American theater, announces its 45th Anniversary Season, running from September 2010 to June 2011. This season, themed 'Shake It Up' includes MYSTERIOUS SKIN by Prince Gomolvilas based on the novel by Scott Heim, CRIMES OF THE HEART by Beth Henley, WRINKLES by Paul Kikuchi, and KRUNK FU BATTLE BATTLE with book by Qui Nguyen, lyrics by Beau Sia and vocal music by Marc Macalintal.

Alan Alda to Moderate ICARUS AT THE EDGE OF TIME, 4/25

Alan Alda is set to moderate the discussion with playwright David Henry Hwang, physicist Brian Greene, and filmmakers and visual artists Al and Al. The discussion will explore the creative process behind a brand-new performance inspired by Greene's moving futuristic reimagining of the Icarus fable, entitled ICARUS AT THE EDGE OF TIME. This event is scheduled for Sunday, April 25, at 3PM and 7:30PM.

Renowned physicist Brian Greene, art duo Al and Al, award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang, and Artistic Director of London's Southbank Centre Jude Kelly explore the creative process behind a brand-new performance inspired by Greene's moving futuristic reimagining of the Icarus fable. This event is scheduled for Sunday, April 25, at 3PM and 7:30PM.

Diversionary Theatre Present 'Dance/Theatre', 4/22-4/25

Five local choreographers will each create a new dance work for Diversionary Theatre's special event, Dance/Theatre, with four performances, April 22-25, 2010. The project was conceived by Peter G. Kalivas of The PGK Project in conjunction with Diversionary's Executive & Artistic Director Dan Kirsch. This is the second year of what will become an annual event. Dance/Theatre merges theatre and dance audiences while presenting universal stories through dance inspired by productions previously staged by Diversionary. 'We are very excited about this collaboration,' said Kirsch. 'Diversionary has a long history of creating new work, and this project is a great way to connect to the dance community.'

Salonga and Tomita to Emcee East West Players Awards April 19

East West Players (EWP), the nation's premier Asian American theatre, happily announces Lea Salonga and Tamlyn Tomita as the Emcees of East West Players 44th Anniversary Visionary Award Dinner & Silent Auction. Also announced for the gala event are performances by Joan Almedilla, Jennifer Paz, and Jenni Selma of EWP's upcoming musical production of ROAD TO SAIGON and vocalist Ethan Le Phong. This year's honorees include previously announced Wenda Fong, Vice President of Alternative Programming for FOX and Mike Shinoda, visual artist and musician for two-time Grammy Award-winning rock band Linkin Park. The gala event will take place at the Hilton Universal City on Monday, April 19, 2010. Proceeds from the event will benefit East West Players' educational and artistic programs.

Silk Road Theatre Project Ends THE DNA TRAIL 4/11

Silk Road Theatre Project will end the first production of its 2010 season on April 11th.The show was the World Premiere of THE DNA TRAIL: A Genealogy of Short Plays about Ancestry, Identity, and Utter Confusion, conceived by SRTP's artistic director Jamil Khoury, commissioned by Silk Road Theatre Project, directed by Steve Scott, and featuring new plays by Philip Kan Gotanda, Velina Hasu Houston, David Henry Hwang, Jamil Khoury, Shishir Kurup, Lina Patel, and Elizabeth Wong.
