Anyone who knows me knows I am passionate about the theatre and about the rare and radiant feeling that can only come from a few hours in a darkened space connecting on an emotional level both with a set of actors and those around you sharing that common experience. Sometimes a play gets it right, sometimes it doesn't, but sometimes a production comes along that is something else altogether. It goes beyond entertainment, reaching in and touching you to your very core in a brilliant symphony of emotional energy. This is exactly what is happening at TheaterWorks in Hartford in its latest production - Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey's NEXT TO NORMAL, and it is something truly magnificent.

Winner of more than 125 international awards, the world's second longest-running musical ever, Les Miserables arrives at Teatro Renault, in Sao Paulo. Based on Victor Hugo's classic novel, the show, in contrast to 19th-century France, tells an enthralling story of dreams, love, passion, sacrifice and redemption - a timeless testimony of the survival of the human spirit.

TheaterWorks will continue its 31st Season with NEXT TO NORMAL, running March 23 through April 30, 2017. The cast features Tony nominated Christiane Noll (Diana) and Australia's David Harris (Dan) in the Pulitzer Prize winning drama with music by Tom Kitt and book & lyrics by Brian Yorkey. Christiane is familiar to Connecticut audiences for her work at Goodspeed, Shubert, The Bushnell and the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. David has been charming Australian audiences for years but recently relocated to New York. Local audiences have seen him in Terrance Mann's Les Miserable at Connecticut Repertory Theatre and Goodspeed's Anything Goes.

The story of the pinball-playing, deaf, dumb and blind boy who triumphs over his adversities has inspired, amazed, and puzzled audiences for more than 40 years. This five-time Tony Award-winning musical was translated to the stage into a high-energy, one-of-a-kind theatrical event. While watching a revival production of Lionel Bart's 'Oliver!' in London, LES MISERABLES Co-creator Alain Boublil saw the similarities between literature's favorite little street urchins Oliver Twist, from Charles Dicken's novel of the same name, and Gavroche, from Victor Hugo's LES MISERABLES, which sparked the idea to cowrite the novel-to-stage adaptation of the latter with Claude-Michel Schonberg more than 30 years ago.
