CATS Will Bow in Qatar This February

According to Doha News, Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS will bow in Qatar in early 2017. Tickets are now on sale for the musical, which will run at the Qatar National Convention Center, February 1-4.
Pianist Kirill Gerstein Performs 1879 Version of Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto With the New York Philharmonic, 2/2-4 & 7

Pianist Kirill Gerstein continues to champion Tchaikovsky's own final version of the First Piano Concerto in four performances with the New York Philharmonic, conducted by Semyon Bychkov, on Thursday, February 2 at 7:30 PM; Friday, February 3 at 11:00 AM; Saturday, February 4 at 8:00 PM; and Tuesday, February 7 at 7:30 PM. The performances will mark the first time this 1879 version will be heard in New York since Tchaikovsky himself conducted it for the 1891 opening of Carnegie Hall. The concerts also feature Tchaikovsky's Manfred Symphony and are part of Beloved Friend - Tchaikovsky and His World: A Philharmonic Festival (January 24-February 11), the New York Philharmonic and Mr. Bychkov's three-week festival of orchestral, chamber, and vocal programs that explore music by Tchaikovsky and composers who influenced or were influenced by him.

Manhattan Concert Productions has just announced lead casting for their 25th anniversary concert version of Gershwin's musical comedy Crazy for You. Tony award nominees Tony Yazbeck and Laura Osnes, will co-star as Bobby Child and Polly Baker for this one night only event at David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center on February 19, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. Five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman will direct the Tony Award-winning Crazy for You 25 years to the day from its opening night on Broadway. The performance features Stroman's choreography from the original production, a chorus of 240 singers from across the United States, a professional cast and creative team, and the enlarged forces of the New York City Chamber Orchestra. Following the success of The Secret Garden earlier this year, Crazy for You marks the fifth installment of Manhattan Concert Productions' critically acclaimed Broadway Series that has also included Parade, Titanic, and Ragtime.

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in Brahms's Symphony No. 3 and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, Emperor, with Stephen Hough as soloist, Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, January 12 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 13 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, January 14 at 8:00 p.m. The January 14 performance will be broadcast on Facebook Live, the Philharmonic's second live concert broadcast on Facebook, following the 2016-17 season Opening Gala Concert. On Today, November 29 at 8:00PM at the St. Ignatius of Antioch Church, 552 West End Ave. at 87th St, American Classical Orchestra presents a program of J.S Bach's cantatas; Es wartet alles auf dich, opening chorus BWV 187; Nun Komm der Heiden Heiland, opening chorus BWV 62; Christ lag in Todesbanden, BWV 4; Cantata: Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, BWV 131; Cantata: Nach dir, Herr, verlanget mich BWV 150 , Meine Seel erhebt den Herren, opening chorus BWV 10 and Sinfonia from Cantata: Ich habe meine Zuversicht, BWV 188. Cantatas were the daily work of the master composer. A selection of Bach's most uplifting cantatas will be sung by the acclaimed American Classical Orchestra Chorus with selected soloists in the ideal acoustic hall of St. Ignatius of Antioch Church. This concert is conducted by Thomas Crawford.
NYChoral Rings in the Holiday Season At Alice Tully Hall 12/21

The New York Choral Society (NYChoral) under the direction of its music director David Hayes will ring in the holiday season with a Christmas concert at Alice Tully Hall on Wednesday evening, December 21st, at 7:30 p.m. The program, featuring soloists Frederick Ballentine and Justin Hopkins, will present works by two musical giants of 20th Century American choral music, Robert Shaw, whose 100th birthday would have been this year, and Robert De Cormier, NYChoral Music Director Emeritus, who was awarded the 2016 Michael Korn Founders Award by Chorus America for his lifetime contribution to the choral arts. The concert will also include works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Elizabeth Poston, and James MacMillan, and will end with an audience sing-along of beloved Christmas carols. Conceived, curated, and conducted by Semyon Bychkov, the New York Philharmonic presents Beloved Friend - Tchaikovsky and His World: A Philharmonic Festival, a three-week festival featuring orchestral, chamber, and vocal programs that explore music by Tchaikovsky and composers who influenced or were influenced by him, from January 24 to February 11. Beloved Friend continues the Philharmonic's recent tradition of annual, multi-week festivals, with Mr. Bychkov focusing this year's festival on Tchaikovsky as part of his international, multi-season Tchaikovsky project, Beloved Friend, which also includes recordings and additional concert series.
