At last night's GRAMMY AWARDS, the cast recording of Broadway's THE COLOR PURPLE picked up the award for Best Musical Theater Album.

Broadway Records' cast recording of THE COLOR PURPLE has won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. Cynthia Erivo and Jennifer Hudson are the principal soloists on the album produced by Stephen Bray, Van Dean, Frank Filipetti, Roy Furman, Scott Sanders and Jhett Tolentino. Stephen Bray, Brenda Russell and Allee Willis are composers/lyricists.

This evening, BuzzFeed and the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment will host a book party for the launch of One Book, One New York in celebration of the five finalists and New York City's hometown book publishing industry. The Tony Award-winning revival of The Color Purple will play its final performance on Broadway today,  Sunday, January 8, 2017. The production will has played 449 regular and 33 preview performances at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 W 45th Street). Soon, a North American tour of the production will launch, most likely in the fall of 2017.

Nominations for the 23rd Annual SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARDS were announced live today from the Pacific Design Center. Sophia Bush (Chicago P.D., One Tree Hill) and Common (Suicide Squad, Selma) joined SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris to reveal this year's announce the nominees.

The Movement Theatre Company, a Harlem-based nonprofit committed to showcasing emerging artists of color, releases a music video mashup featuring Rihanna's "Work" and "This Is What You Came For." The Movement's Rihanna-inspired holiday music video is a festive ode to all the "work" the company has produced in its almost 10 years of existence and highlights plans for future events in the coming year. The new music video emphasizes the company's commitment to artists of color and support for local Harlem businesses. It also raises awareness about The Movement's #holiDONATE fundraising campaign, which is one part of a larger goal to raise $100,000 by the end of their season. There will be an exclusive viewing party/holiday fundraiser Monday, December 12th from 6:30-9:30pm at Nabe Underground.

Cynthia Erivo took to Twitter today to confirm that after THE COLOR PURPLE closes on Broadway on January 8th she will not be reprising her role of Celie either on Tour or in the West End.

Danielle Brooks, Tony Award nominee from The Color Purple and co-star of the Netflix series "Orange Is the New Black," will perform in a one-night only reading of James Baldwin's The Amen Corner this Mondayevening, November 28 at 7 pm as part of Classic Stage Company's annual First Look Festival. Directed by Liesl Tommy, the reading of The Amen Corner will also feature Adeola Role, Mirirai Sithole, Phumzile Sithole, Christina Redd, Brandon Jones, Curtiss Cook Jr, Kevin Mambo, Cristina Pitter and Folami Williams.
