Last night, at a celebration honoring theatre excellence on stages across the Washington area, theatre artists, administrators, patrons, and special guests gathered in the National Theatre's Helen Hayes Gallery for theatreWashington's announcement of nominees for the 35th Annual Helen Hayes Awards, which will be presented on Monday, May 13 at an event at the Anthem.

Theater J completes its four-show 2018-2019 season Around Town with the English language premiere of the Yiddish theater classic The Jewish Queen Lear, a translation of Jacob Gordin's Mirele Efros. The Jewish Queen Lear runs at Georgetown University's Davis Performing Arts Center in the Gonda Theatre March 13 - April 7. The press is invited to Opening Night of The Jewish Queen Lear on Monday, March 18 at 7:30 PM.

Disney announced today that Academy Award®-nominated and SAG® winner “Black Panther” will return to the big screen to celebrate Black History Month for a one-week engagement, February 1-7, at 250 participating AMC Theatres locations. To ensure that the movie is accessible to all, tickets are free for everyone, and there will be two showings per day at each participating theater.

Cleveland Play House (CPH) is raising the swashbuckling stakes on the Robin Hood folklore with an exciting adventure that conjures up joy, romance and merriment. Ken Ludwig's Sherwood: The Adventures of Robin Hood, is a lightning speed tale full of playful characters that will take over the Allen Theatre at Playhouse Square from February 2nd through February 24th, 2019.

Victory Gardens Theater continues its 44th season with the Chicago Premiere of Pipeline, written by 2018 MacArthur Fellow Dominique Morisseau and directed by Cheryl Lynn Bruce. Pipeline runs February 1 March 3, 2019, with press performance on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 7:30pm at Victory Gardens Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Avenue.

The Old Globe today announced the cast and creative team for Familiar by Tony Award nominee Danai Gurira (Broadway's Eclipsed, Black Panther, "The Walking Dead"). This funny, warmhearted look at tradition, marriage, and what it means to be an American family will be directed by Edward Torres (the Globe's Water by the Spoonful and Native Gardens, Cancion at Repertorio Español) and will run January 26 - March 3, 2019 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage, Old Globe Theatre, Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run January 26-30. Opening night is Thursday, January 31. The 50th NAACP Image Awards will air LIVE on TV One, a division of Urban One, Inc., on March 30, 2019. For the first time ever, the telecast will take place from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California. The announcement was made today by NAACP National Board of Directors Chairman Leon W. As this year draws to an end there are many different articles and lists about the best theatre in San Diego in 2018. This is not one of those articles.  This is a list towards the future, looking out on the horizon at the shows that are singing their irresistible sirens song.
