Haven Theatre Chicago presents the company's inaugural production, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, now running through August 11, at Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont Ave. Hedwig and the Angry Inch, written by John Cameron Mitchell, with lyrics and music by Stephen Trask is directed by Kyle Trentwith music direction by Kory Danielson. The newly formed Haven Theatre strives to conserve, renew and reinvent theatre traditions while providing ongoing support and mentorship to emerging artists. Castillo Theatre Extends Run of CARMEN'S PLACE (A FANTASY) Until 6/16

The Castillo Theatre production of Carmen's Place (A Fantasy), called "an aria to behold" by critics in this opera-within-a musical running through June 16. Carmen's Place features an original pop score by Annie Roboff and Fred Newman, and in its show-within-the-show, some of the best-known and best-loved operatic numbers ever performed. Director Gabrielle L. Kurlander received the AUDELCO "Viv" Recognition Award for Excellence in Black Theatre as Best Director of a Musical Production in 2012 for Newman-Roboff's Sally and Tom (The American Way).

Castillo Theatre Will Open 2013-14 Season With STEALIN' HOME

On Friday, April 5, 2013 the Castillo Theatre announced that it would open its 2013-2014 theatre season with Stealin' Home, written in 1997 by Castillo's late artistic director and playwright-in-residence Fred Newman to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in baseball.

2013 Otto René Castillo Awards For Political Theatre Announced

On Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Castillo Theatre in New York City, members of the Awards Committee of the Otto Rene Castillo Awards for Political Theatre gathered for the announcement of the 2013 Otto Award honorees. The 15th annual awards celebration will be held on May 19, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Castillo Theatre.

Castillo Theatre Presents Dan Friedman's DEMONSTRATION 2013, Now thru 3/10

For its first production following the sold-out run of Katori Hall's Children of Killers, the Castillo Theatre will premiere Demonstration 2013, a multi-media performance piece written by artistic director Dan Friedman that will run for seven performances (today, February 23, 24 and March 1, 2, 3, 9 and 10) at the Castillo Theatre, 543 West 42nd Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues.

Castillo Theatre's SALLY AND TOM Wins 5 AUDELCO Awards

On Monday, November 19, the membership of the Audience Development Corporation honored the Castillo Theatre with wins in all five of the categories in which it was nominated for the Vivian Robinson AUDELCO Recognition Awards for Excellence in Black Theatre (aka the Viv Awards) for its production of Sally and Tom (The American Way) by Fred Newman and Annie Roboff, directed by Gabrielle L. Kurlander. The musical looks at the relationship between Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings, his slave and mistress for 30 years, exploring the tragic contradiction at the heart of American history and culture.

Castillo Theatre Presents CHILDREN OF KILLERS, Now thru 10/28

The Castillo Theatre is opening its 29th season with the American premiere of Children of Killers by award-wining playwright, Katori Hall. Ms. Hall comes to Castillo fresh from the London and Broadway triumphs of The Mountaintop, her play about the last night of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and from the premiere at the Signature Theatre of Hurt Village, a play set in the projects of her hometown of Memphis. The Mountaintop won the Olivier Award for best play in 2010. Hurt Village won the 2011 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. Ms. Hall is pleased that Children of Killers is being presented to Castillo's diverse audience.

Greenway Arts Alliance has announced that their world premiere production of THE BEWILDERED HERD by LA Weekly Award and Ovation Award nominee Cody Henderson, directed by Laurie Woolery, will now run through May 20.

Due to popular demand, the Castillo Theatre is re-opening Sally and Tom (The American Way), seven performances have been added: April 20, 21, 28, 29; May 4, 5, 6. Fred Newman and Annie Roboff's musical revival, Sally and Tom (The American Way) examines the 30-year relationship between Thomas Jefferson and his slave Sally Hemings, a relationship that produced six children and embodies the wrenching conflict between democracy and slavery, and its legacy of racism that continues to shape America to this day. In this polarizing presidential election year, the meaning of "the American way" is itself being hotly contested.

Greenway Arts Alliance Announce THE BEWILDERED HERD for April 12-May 6

Greenway Arts Alliance has announced the world premiere production of THE BEWILDERED HERD by LA Weekly Award and Ovation Award nominee Cody Henderson, directed by Laurie Woolery. There will be two preview performances on April 12 and 13, and opening night is set for Saturday, April 14 at 8:00. The limited engagement will run through Sunday, May 6.
