Segerstrom Center to Welcome Dover Quartet in March

Segerstrom Center presents the Dover Quartet on Thursday, March 17 at 8 p.m. in Samueli Theater. The New Yorker recently dubbed the Dover Quartet "the young American string quartet of the moment," and The Strad raved that the quartet is "already pulling away from their peers with their exceptional interpretive maturity, tonal refinement and taut ensemble." For its Center debut, the Quartet will perform Mozart's String Quartet No. 17 in B-flat Major, K. 458; the Center premiere performance of French composer Dutilleux's "Ainsi la nuit" (1976) and Shostakovich's Quartet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 68. A free Preview Talk with musicologist and author Herbert Glass will take place at 7:15 p.m.

Alan Gilbert to Lead NY Phil with Soloists Eric Owens & Heidi Melton in January

Bass-baritone Eric Owens will continue his tenure as The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in- Residence with performances, led by Music Director Alan Gilbert, of Richard Strauss songs - "Ruhe, meine Seele," Op. 27, No. 1; "Ca?cilie," Op. 27, No. 2; "Pilgers Morgenlied," Op. 33, No. 4 - and the Final Scene from Act III of Die Walku?re, alongside soprano Heidi Melton in her Philharmonic debut. The program also includes Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries and Sibelius's En saga, one of several programs this season honoring the 150th anniversary of Sibelius's birth. The performances take place Thursday, January 7, 2016, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 8 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, January 9 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, January 12 at 7:30 p.m.

Mannes Opera to Present Donizetti's L'ELISIR D'AMORE, Featuring Mannes Orchestra, 12/11

The New School's College of Performing Arts is pleased to announce that the acclaimed Mannes Opera Young Artists, led by Artistic Director Joseph Colaneri, will give two fully-staged performances of Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore with the Mannes Orchestra. Performances will take place December 11 at 7:30 pm and & December 12 at 1:30 pm at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College (524 West 59th Street, New York). Admission is $25, $10 for students/seniors, and can be purchased through ticketcentral.com.

The New York Philharmonic will present Rachmaninoff: A Philharmonic Festival, tonight, November 10-28, 2015, featuring 24-year-old Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov performing three of the composer's piano concertos and the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini over the course of three consecutive all-Rachmaninoff programs, each led by a different conductor: Cristian Macelaru (in his Philharmonic debut), Neeme Jarvi, and Ludovic Morlot.

Wallach Artist-in-Residence Lisa Batiashvili will continue her tenure with performances of Barber's Violin Concerto, and The Marie-Jose?e Kravis Composer-in- Residence Christopher Rouse's tenure concludes with performances of Iscariot, the final work by Mr. Rouse to performed during his three-year tenure. David Zinman will conduct the program, which also includes Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2, Thursday, February 5, 2015, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, February 6 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, February 7 at 8:00 p.m.
