Seen for the first time on the West Coast, OBIE Award winning playwright Samuel D. Hunter's A BRIGHT NEW BOISE (Drama Desk Award nomination) will be presented at Rogue Machine as the final offering for their main stage 2012 season. It will include an award-winning cast.

Known for his thrilling live performances and irreverent style, award-winning musical troublemaker David Yazbek takes the stage with his band at 92YTribeca in a new series, presented the first Monday of each month. Yazbek - whose influences range from Captain Beefheart to Frank Loesser - plans to deliver musical pyrotechnics, new songs debuted at every show, and unexpected, thrilling guests from the worlds of theater, music, comedy and beyond. For his first show on November 5, Yazbek welcomes Tony award-winning lyricist and composer, longtime friend and former bandmate Adam Guettel (The Light in the Piazza) as well as his buddy comedian, film-director and web phenomenon David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer, Role Models.)

Acclaimed theater company Playwrights Horizons has announced additional performers participating in the return of its popular benefit evening STORIES ON 5 STORIES: Poetic Justice on Monday evening, October 22.

Due to strong audience demand, Apollinaire Theatre Company announces the addition of 5 performances of Uncle Vanya; Wednesday November 7-Sunday November 11. Performances are at 7:30 on Wed., Thurs., and Sun, 8:00 on Fri. and Sat.

Sloan Foundation Initiative commissions for Manhattan Theatre Club. This year's six commissioned writers are April de Angelis (Jumpy), Nick Jones (The Coward), Heidi Schreck (Creature), Melissa Ross (Thinner Than Water), Sarah Treem (A Feminine Ending), and Bess Wohl (Barcelona).

The new stage musical KING KONG - one of the greatest love stories ever told - officially launched today by announcing its all-Australian lead cast and the line-up of international artists who will contribute to the score. One of the most ambitious shows to be staged in Australia, KING KONG premieres 15 June 2013 for an exclusive, Melbourne only, season at the Regent Theatre.

Patricia Clarkson and Zachary Booth have both reportedly signed on for the dark indie comedic film, LAST WEEKEND. The film is set to begin shooting this week. It will serve as Tom Dolby and Tom Williams' feature directorial debut.

In musical theatre, it's not enough to write a good song.  You have to write the right song.  Character, plot, placement and various intangibles all go into making music, lyrics and performance all effectively fit into a moment and contribute to the piece as a whole.
