Pride Films and Plays announced today that the winner of the first Great Gay Play Contest is Learn to be Latina, by Enrique Ureata from San Francisco.

The schedule has been set for the five new plays that will be performed as staged readings in the Great Gay Play Fest March 3 - 6, 2011, at the Hoover-Leppen Theater at the Center on Halsted in Chicago. These five scripts have been selected by our esteemed reading panel from fresh GLBT work submitted from around the country, and includes work by new writers, as well as that from those already working in the industry. Five esteemed Chicago directors are working to make these plays a reality.

Florida Grand Opera has announced the productions for the 2011-2012 season, which will be the Company's 71st consecutive season of producing grand opera in South Florida. The season includes two important 'firsts' for FGO: the first presentation of a zarzuela, Torroba's Luisa Fernanda, and the first production of Puccini's La rondine. The season will also include Verdi's Rigoletto and Gounod's Rom o et Juliette.

On February 28, Golden Rivet Productions and Irondale Ensemble will hold an industry backers audition for the new musical adaptation of TREASURE ISLAND. The production began previews February 15 and will open March 5.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee coses February 13th. '...Spelling Bee,' with Music by William Finn, Book by Rachel Sheinkin won two Tony Awards and was a long-running hit on Broadway. The music special, filmed on location at the brand new Hard Rock Cafe on Hollywood Boulevard, is scheduled to air 1/1/11 on KNBC-Los Angeles at 2:30am.
