Big Thunder Productions will present Mercury Rising, a Benefit Concert by MSS Alums in the Big Apple, a cabaret event to be performed on Sunday, September 15th at 4pm at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. The event will feature songs from new, bound-for-Broadway musicals written by up-and-coming composers and lyricists from all over the globe, including Mercury Summer Stock's own Dan Marshall, Carla Rose Fisher, and Aliyana Stewart. This benefit concert will feature Broadway's Corey Mach and Drew Aber, and over a dozen of Mercury's NYC-based professional alumni, along with special guest Marissa Rosen. Ghostlight Records just celebrated their Original Broadway Cast Recording of the new musical HANDS ON A HARDBODY with an in-store performance and CD signing at Barnes & Noble on the Upper East Side (150 East 86th Street). The event featured original Broadway cast members Keith Carradine, Keala Settle, Janet Krupin, Corey March, Kathleen Elizabeth Monteleone, Jim Newman, Connie Ray, Jon Rua and Dale Soules. Flashdance - The Musical, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation, will make its Wisconsin premiere at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center Nov. 12-17. FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation, will perform at the Aronoff Center, October 29 - November 10, 2013 as part of the Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Cincinnati 13/14 Season. On August 19th, emerging writing duo Lyons and Pakchar recorded their debut album # LOVE live at The Cutting Room. The 11-song record, infusing Pop/R&B and theatre, explores the good, bad, and awkward roller coasters in human relationships and is due for a release in Fall/Winter of 2013. Lyons and Pakchar are a new contemporary writing duo blending Pop/R&B for the Theatre. Their debut album #LOVE, which explores the good, bad, and awkward roller coasters in human relationships, will be recorded live in concert on Monday, August 19th at The Cutting Room at 8pm. Last night, a slew of Broadway favorites took part in Twenty-Somethings at The Highline Ballroom, featuring music by up-and-coming songwriters Blake Pfeil, Zoe Sarnak and Drew Overcash. Last night I had the privilege of taking a look back on an incredibly impressive recent string of major musicals starring the phenomenally talented Brandon Victor Dixon with the leading man himself, ranging from his work last year Off-Broadway in RENT as well as the Williamstown Theatre Festival mounting of FAR FROM HEAVEN, both directed by Michael Greif, through to his acclaimed performance in Kander & Ebb's THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS through to his new role portraying music titan Berry Gordy himself in the audience hit of the 2012-2013 season, MOTOWN. In addition to eloquently expounding on his various starring roles in those four major musicals and reflecting upon his time spent in each production, Dixon also opens up about his passion for performance in general and the importance of collaboration in the creation of any musical from the ground-up. Dixon also comments upon his experiences originating a role in Oprah Winfrey's recent stage venture THE COLOR PURPLE as well as recounts his association with COTTON CLUB PARADE - set to premiere on Broadway under a new title later this year - as well as the various incarnations of his stage piece based on the life and career of Ray Charles. Most importantly, besides all about MOTOWN and his work with Gordy and the cast on the hit show, Dixon also previews what we can expect from the cast of the show on tonight's A CAPITOL FOURTH PBS concert extravaganza, featuring Dixon alongside MOTOWN standout Saycon Sengbloh.
