It seems too early in the competition for the finalists of American Idol to be so universally outstanding. Sure, last night's performances included both highs and lows, and true I'm attached to some of the competitors more than others. Quite frankly, I find it highly unusual that the top 9 are as polished as they are. Perhaps it's a reflection of the show's new mentors and/or judges?

Down to just nine performers, American Idol's remaining contestants have proven week after week that they make up perhaps the most talented bunch of finalists in the show's 10 season history. No complaints there, but such a statistic also means that even excellent performances tonight could warrant a ticket home.

On Wednesday, April 6 (8:00-9:30 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), the Top 9 finalists - Casey Abrams, Lauren Alaina, James Durbin, Stefano Langone, Jacob Lusk, Scotty McCreery, Paul McDonald, Haley Reinhart and Pia Toscano - return to the IDOL stage to perform songs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The IDOLs will be accompanied by legendary rock guitarist Jeff Beck, who will be performing with Ray Chew and the AMERICAN IDOL band.
ROCK OF AGES Finds New 'Drew:' Diego González Boneta Joins Film

New York Magazine has announced that after an extensive open casting process, Diego González Boneta has been selected as Drew for the ROCK OF AGES film. The part was originated on Broadway by American Idol alum Constantine Maroulis. Earlier today, reports circluated that Katy Perry may also join the flick as a stripper, alongside Tom Cruise, Julianne Hough, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige and, reportedly, her husband Russell Brand. Variety has confirmed the news.

After a breif hiatus, ROCK OF AGES re-opened at the Helen Hayes Theatre on Broadway last night, March 24. The five-time Tony Award nominated musical played its final performance at The Brooks Atkinson Theatre on Sunday, January 9, 2011. The production moved houses to make way for RAIN, which had to vacate it's home at the Neil Simon Theatre to accommodate Catch Me If You Can. In the epic event that was last week's ‘American Idol' results show, the judges chose to use the one ‘save' of the season to hang on to Casey Abrams for another week - and rightfully so. The consequence of that decision however, is that two contestants will get the boot this week in what is sure to be a painful elimination.
Constantine Maroulis Introduces Baby Malena

Constantine Maroulis, who originated the role of Drew in ROCK OF AGES on Broadway, recently introduced his first child, Malena James to the world via People Magazine. On how he and mom ANgel Reed chose the now three month old's name, he commented: '. 'I always loved the name. I'm not fond of a lot of Greek female names. James is my middle name and my father's name. It just fit.'
