Yank!, which played the York Theatre off Broadway in the 2009-2010 season and which has an eye for Broadway will be given a workshop this fall in NYC, backed by the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. The workshop will run from October 24 through November 17, 2011.
The new DC area theatre season begins in September. Over 50 shows are opening in our professional and community theatres. But before we move on to the new season and what's opening in September, let's look back at my personal favorite musicals, plays, and performances in both musicals and plays in the DC area - from August 2010 to August 2011.
After kicking off the inaugural season of Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater, shattering all box office records from Arena Stage's 60-year history and rounding up 10 Helen Hayes Awards nominations, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! has returned for a summer run under the direction of Artistic Director Molly Smith. The revival, featuring the entire original principal cast and most of the ensemble, has already broken more company records by selling the highest number of single tickets for a production in 24 hours when tickets went on sale March 3, 2011. Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! began performances on July 8, 2011 and opened July 14. The production runs through October 2, 2011 in the Fichandler Stage. Broadway buzz has surrounded the production since its premiere run. Check out complete photo coverage from the celebrated show below!

There's a lot of 'steam heat' on DC area stages and outside, so if you're visiting DC for the annual July 4th fireworks extravaganza, stop by and see a show before you roast on the Mall waiting for the concert and loud "booms" to fill up the sky. And if you couldn't get into the sold-out Oklahoma!, Aquarium, Clybourne Park, or The Importance of Being Earnest - earlier this year - you have a chance now! And then there's The Capital Fringe Festival with dozens of new shows to choose from.

The Hit Musical, Singin' In The Rain, is an all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza! Based on one of the most celebrated and beloved movies of all time, Singin' In The Rain jubilantly taps its way onto WBT's stage this Spring. Reveling in parody, the musical turns the precarious birth of the 'talkies' (and the demise of nearly all silent picture stars during the late 20s) into an unforgettably hilarious, light-hearted romantic comedy. Singin' In The Rain has been described as 'one of the best musicals of all time' featuring some of the best loved comedy routines, dance numbers, and songs ever written, including 'Good Morning,' 'Make ‘Em Laugh,' 'Moses Supposes,' 'You Were Meant For Me' and, of course, 'Singin' In The Rain.'
