Broadway Bound TUCK EVERLASTING to Play Boston June 2013; Shear, Miller, Tysen & Nicholaw on Creative Team

Producers Broadway Across America (John Gore, Thomas B. McGrath, Beth Williams), Howard Kagan and Barry Brown have just announced that the new Broadway musical TUCK EVERLASTING will have its pre-Broadway world premiere at Boston's Citi Performing Arts Center Colonial Theatre (106 Boylston Street) in June of 2013. With a book by Tony Award nominee Claudia Shear (Dirty Blonde), music by Chris Miller (The Burnt Part Boys), lyrics by Nathan Tysen (The Burnt Part Boys) and directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon), TUCK EVERLASTING is based on the novel by Natalie Babbitt. Broadway production details, design team and casting for TUCK EVERLASTING will be announced at a later date.

New York Theatre Workshop's AN ILIAD Opens 3/6 & 7

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director William Russo have announced that the New York premiere of An Iliad, by Denis O'Hare and Lisa Peterson, based on Homer's Iliad translated by Robert Fagles, directed by Ms. Peterson, will open this week at NYTW, 79 East 4 Street, between Bowery and Second Avenue. Denis O'Hare and Stephen Spinella alternate performances of the play. Mr. O'Hare opens Tuesday, March 6; Mr. Spinella Wednesday, March 7.

Geva Theatre Center's 2012 Nextstage Season kicks off with I Got Sick Then I Got Better, written and performed by Jenny Allen which begins performances on March 7 and runs in the Fielding Nextstage through March 11.

New York Theatre Workshop Announces CASEBOOK Series

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director William Russo have announced that NYTW will inaugurate a new public program this season called Casebook. Each season NYTW will designate one of its productions to be a 'case study,' which will allow a general audience unprecedented access to the artists involved in the creation of a new work as it is happening.

Denis O’Hare and Lisa Peterson to Lead AN ILIAD at New York Theatre Workshop

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. After a run in Spring 2010 as a co-production between Playwrights Horizons (Artistic Director, Tim Sanford; Managing Director, Leslie Marcus) and Vineyard Theatre (Artistic Director, Douglas Aibel; Executive Director, Jennifer Garvey-Blackwell), the critically-acclaimed score of THE BURNT PART BOYS has been recorded by Yellow Sound Label, produced by Michael Croiter in conjunction with Playwrights Horizons, to be released in digital and CD formats on December 6, 2011.

Joan Stein and Richard Frankel (Producers) announced that the new theatrical event Standing On Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays, which premieres Off Broadway at the Minetta Lane Theatre in NYC this fall, will join with Tectonic Theater Project (Moisés Kaufman, Artistic Director; Greg Reiner, Executive Director) to help take the play's message of marriage equality across the globe.

Joe's Pub at The Public Theater, New York Theatre Workshop, and Friends of the Jenin Freedom Theatre announced today an evening of song, video and performance on October 30th, 2011 at 7:00pm to benefit the Freedom Theatre. Tickets are $100 and the event is hosted by Pulitzer Prize-winner Tony Kushner and featuring Academy Award-winner David Byrne, Pulitzer Prize-winner Suzan-Lori Parks, Grammy-winners Aimee Mann and Angelique Kidjo, Tony Award-winner Audra McDonald, Palestinian hip-hop group DAM, as well as a special performance by the acting company of The Freedom Theatre. The entire evening is directed by Jo Bonney.

New York Theatre Workshop's production of The Select (The Sun Also Rises), created by Elevator Repair Service (ERS) based on Ernest Hemingway's novel, The Sun Also Rises, and directed by John Collins, will close on Sunday, October 23 at NYTW, 79 East 4th Street, between Second Avenue and Bowery.

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director William Russo have announced that due to ticket demand and superb notices The Select (The Sun Also Rises), created by Elevator Repair Service (ERS) based on Ernest Hemingway's novel, The Sun Also Rises, and directed by John Collins, will extend for two weeks and run through Sunday, October 23 at NYTW, 79 East 4th Street, between Second Avenue and Bowery.

BWW Reviews: Dramatic License Productions Presents Unique Romantic Comedy with DIRTY BLONDE

Playwright Claudia Shear (with an assist in conception from James Lapine) has constructed an interesting take on your typical showbiz biography. DIRTY BLONDE combines elements and events taken from the life of Mae West, and plays them off of a romantic coupling. It's an odd combination that works charmingly, and provides some insight into what made that particular 'dirty blonde' click as a person and as a a performer.
