PARACHUTE MEN, GIRL OF GLASS, THE TIGER AMONG US and More Set for Lark's 21st Annual Playwrights' Week

Lark Play Development Center has announced that seven plays have been chosen for its 21st Annual Playwrights' Week, which will take place September 22nd - 27th. This year's plays and playwrights are Parachute Men by Mando Alvarado, Lucky Ladies by Dominic Finocchiaro, INC. by Diana Grisanti, No More Sad Things by Hansol Jung, Girl of Glass by Jennifer A. Kokai, Chalk by Walt McGough, and The Tiger Among Us by Lauren Yee.

Lorinda Lisitza & Hannah Sloat to Lead DRAGON'S BREATH at FringeNYC, 8/9-23

DRAGON'S BREATH premieres at the 18th Annual New York International Fringe Festival on August 9th. Playwright, Michael C. O'Day makes his writing debut with this production. As an actor, he has appeared at the Public Theatre, Classical Theatre of Harlem, and the Paper Mill Playhouse, among other venues - most recently Judson Arts in the acclaimed revival of The Bonus Army. DRAGON'S BREATH is directed by Mikaela Kafka, known for her directing work with Centenary Stage and NJ Dramatists.

Anthony Chisholm Stars in DARK MEAT ON A FUNNY MIND at Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Now thru 8/24

The Nuyorican Poets Cafe's 40th anniversary season continues with the world premiere of Wesley Brown's play Dark Meat on a Funny Mind, which stars Tony nominee Anthony Chisholm as legendary comedian Richard Pryor. In Dark Meat, Pryor and his mischievous alter ego (played by actress Trish McCall) revisit the characters who shaped his life and inspired his career. The result is hilarious, surprising and memorable. A. Dean Irby directs the production, which opens today, July 31 and runs through August 24.

William Shakespeare's famed star-crossed lovers bare their passion Uptown this summer as The Classical Theatre of Harlem (Ty Jones, producing artistic director; David Roberts, managing director) presents Romeo n Juliet at the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater in Marcus Garvey Park. Justin Emeka, who edited and adapted the tragedy to bring the colorful characters of Harlem to life, returns for the second year in a row as director. Performances, which are free and open to the public, run through this Sunday, July 27.

Harlem Summer Shakespeare's ROMEO & JULIET Begins 7/23 at Riverbank State Park

HARLEM SUMMER SHAKESPEARE begins its 10th season of FREE SHAKESPEARE in Riverbank State Park with ROMEO AND JULIET on Wednesday, July 23rd and continues through August 17th, with the official opening on July 24th at 8 pm. The company returns to the Riverside Amphitheatre in Riverbank State Park, Riverside Drive at 145th Street, overlooking the Hudson River. Performances are Wednesdays through Sundays at 8 PM.

VOICES OF SWORDS to Run 8/15-9/7 at Walkerspace

In 'Voices of Swords' by Kari Floren, the late thirties son of a woman facing heart surgery hires a forty-something personal organizer to minister to his lonely yet indomitable mother. The organizer is already struggling unsuccessfully to reunite her own family. As she is sorely tested by this job, her growing toward the light is an object lesson to Baby Boomers, whose struggles to care for dependent parents are a preoccupation of our age. The comedic drama will be presented August 15 to September 7 by Right Down Broadway Productions at Walkerspace, 46 Walker Street. Eve Brandstein directs a cast of mostly Broadway regulars including Loni Ackerman, Bob Ari, Phillip Christian, Gillien Goll, Michael McKenzie and Celia Schaefer.

BACH AT LEIPZIG Opens Tonight at People's Light & Theatre

People's Light & Theatre presents the regional premiere of Itamar Moses' acclaimed comedy Bach at Leipzig running tonight, July 9-August 10, 2014 on the Steinbright Stage. Associate Artistic Director Pete Pryor directs. People's Light & Theatre is located at 39 Conestoga Road, Malvern, PA 19355.

The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) will celebrate Opening Night of its production of the William Shakespeare classic Romeo n Juliet, directed and adapted by Justin Emeka. The show will bring the colorful characters of Harlem and the African Diaspora to life. Emeka returns for the second year in a row as director. In Romeo n Juliet, soulful music, verse, movement and dance-hall rhythms provide the backdrop for a community suffering from internal conflict. Performances, which are free and open to the public, run from July 5 through 27.

Harlem Summer Shakespeare to Celebrate 10th Season with ROMEO AND JULIET, Beg. 7/23 at Riverbank State Park

The critically acclaimed HARLEM SUMMER SHAKRESPEARE will present its 10th season of FREE SHAKESPEARE in Riverbank State Park with ROMEO AND JULIET beginning July 23rd and continuing through August 17th, 2014, with the official opening on July 24th at 8 pm. The company will again perform in the Riverside Amphitheatre in Riverbank State Park, Riverside Drive at 145th Street, overlooking the Hudson River. Performances are Wednesdays through Sundays at 8 PM.

AVENUE Q Cast Members in RESCUE RUE, A New Musical Fairytale with Puppets at Signature Center, 7/8-20

The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) in association with Chinese Mother Jewish Daughter, LLC present Rescue Rue, a new musical fairytale with puppets; Concept, Book and Additional Lyrics by Stacey Weingarten, and Music and Lyrics by Kate Steinberg & Joshua Zecher-Ross. Stacey Weingarten directs a cast of seven including Jennifer Barnhart* (Bway: Avenue Q), Nate Begle(Off Bway: John Tartaglia's ImaginOcean), Sarah Liz Haines* (Off Bway: Freckle Face Strawberry), Jason Jacoby* (Off Bway: Avenue Q), Lisa Helmi Johanson* (Off Bway: Avenue Q), Brendan Malafronte (Nat. Tour: John Tartaglia's ImaginOcean), and Gretchen Wylder* (Off Bway: 'Til Divorce Do Us Part). Rescue Rue will be staged at the Ford Foundation Studio Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center, 480 West 42nd Street (bet. 9th and 10th Avenues) in NYC for five performances from July 8-20, 2014. A special TDF Autism-Friendly performance will be held at July 20th at 11am.
