Today in 1959, The Most Happy Fella opened at City Center where it ran for 16 performances. With a book, music, and lyrics by Frank Loesser, the story isabout a romance between an older man and younger woman, is based on the play They Knew What They Wanted by Sidney Howard. The original Broadway production opened in 1956 and ran for 14 months. A 1992 revival, directed by Gerald Guttierrez, featured Spiro Malas as Tony, Sophie Hayden as Rosabella, Charles Pistone as Joe, Claudia Catania as Marie, Liz Larsen as Cleo, and Scott Waara as Herman.

Fans will have to wait just a little bit longer for Sandy Duncan, the beloved stage and screen actress known for her magical, high-flying, Tony-nominated performance as 'Peter Pan' on Broadway, to return to Neverland. 

The New School's newly formed College of Performing Arts, led by"firebrand" (New York Times) Executive Dean Richard Kessler, is pleased to announce winter-spring public programming highlights for the College's three schools: Mannes School of Music, The School of Jazz and The School of Drama. Performances will take place at the College's new performing arts hub-designed by Deborah Berke Partners at Arnhold Hall (55 West 13th Street)-as well as at The New School's Tishman Auditorium at University Center (63 Fifth Avenue), The Theater at the School of Drama (151 Bank Street) and venues throughout the city. There are two nights of great live music at the 1200 Club inside the Holland Performing Arts Center in March: Omaha musician Matt Whipkey will play his celebrated concept album, Penny Park: Omaha, NE: 1989, in its entirety with special guest Rothsteen on Friday, March 4. The following night, March 5, mesmerizing French vocalist Cyrille Aime?e will perform a mix of American standards and gypsy jazz, with touches of Brazilian and French pop. Both concerts start at 8:00 p.m. in the Scott Recital Hall of the Holland Performing Arts Center, 1200 Douglas St.

The 2016 season will be Tesori's fourth and final season leading Encores! Off-Center.

Rehearsals begin Monday, February 8 for the spring Broadway production of Waitress, following its sold-out limited engagement at the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. 

Performances are on now for the next Mint Theater production, WOMEN WITHOUT MEN, and continue through March 26th at New York City Center Stage II (131 West 55th Street). The play explores the clash of conflicting natures and petty competitions that erupt amongst the cloistered teaching staff of an all-girls boarding school. Opening Night is set for February 25th. Empire Theatre Company will present William Finn's Tony Award-winning musical, FALSETTOS, opening tonight, February 4th. This laugh-out-loud production notably features regional favorites Darin Kerr and Cody Gerszewski in addition to Grand Forks native and national talent Michael Marcotte. With a career spanning from the LA Philharmonic to City Center Encores! Marcotte is 'thrilled to be back home performing.'

The Old Globe presents the West Coast premiere of THE METROMANIACS by supremely clever playwright David Ives (All in the Timing, Time Flies). This uproarious new 'translaptation' of a classic French farce, Alexis Piron's La Metromanie, will be directed by one of America's most renowned stage directors, Michael Kahn, presented in association with Shakespeare Theatre Company.

Prodigal Son, the new play written and directed by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner John Patrick Shanley, is now in previews and will open on Tuesday, February 9 at MTC at New York City Center - Stage I (131 West 55th Street). Check out highlights of the cast in action below!

Starting tonight, February 2, Andre Ward (Rock of Ages, Xanadu) will assume the roles of 'Minstrel / Snug' in the ten-time Tony Award-nominated musical comedy SOMETHING ROTTEN! at The St. James Theatre.

The 2016 season of New York City Center's Tony-honored Encores! will open with Cabin in the Sky on February 10-14, 2016, with an all-star cast, including: Harvy Blanks, Chuck Cooper,Marva Hicks, Carly Hughes, Jonathan Kirkland, LaChanze, Norm Lewis, Forrest McClendon,Michael Potts and J.D. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, beloved as one of the world's most popular dance companies, will share its inspiring artistry with audiences during a 20-city North American tour starting tonight at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The tour will take the Company to major cities including Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, Boston, Seattle, and will culminate at the Prudential Hall of the New Jersey Performing in Newark on May 8th.

Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director) and Barry Grove (Executive Producer) just announced that Manhattan Theatre Club's acclaimed world premiere production of Heisenberg, the new play by Tony Award and two-time Olivier Award winner Simon Stephens, directed by Drama Desk Award winner Mark Brokaw, will transfer to the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street), MTC's home on Broadway, this fall starring original cast members Denis Arndt and Tony and Emmy Award winner Mary-Louise Parker.
