Imagination Stage, in a groundbreaking collaboration with The Washington Ballet, presents its world premiere summer production, The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe. In this fusion of theater, dance, and puppetry, based on the novel by C.S. Lewis, the roles of the four children are played jointly by an actor and a dancer, and the courageous lion Aslan is portrayed by a life-size puppet operated by three actor/puppeteers, similar to the puppets used in the Broadway production War Horse. The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) today announced the selections for the 2012 Next Link Project, NYMF's primary writer service program. The Next Link Project empowers emerging musical theatre writing teams as both artists and entrepreneurs by providing the training and relationships needed to help them move their musicals from readings to fully-realized productions and to advance their careers by maximizing the exposure they receive in the Festival. Ten of the Festival's full production slots are reserved for participants in The Next Link Project.
Living with Henry was a hit at last year's Toronto Fringe Festival, and is back on stage with the Next Stage Theatre Festival. Featuring some of Canada's best and brightest musical theatre performers, the show is a semi-autobiographical look at life with HIV/AIDS. The lead character is played by Ryan Kelly who was most recently seen in Studio 180's critically acclaimed production of The Normal Heart. He took a few minutes to talk with BWW about the show, and about his tendency to gravitate towards roles that deal with death, disease and the human spirit.
