The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 271 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. Those who accept the invitations will be the only additions to the Academy's membership in 2014.

The 86th Annual Academy Awards, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, are tonight, March 2, 2014, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and televised live on the ABC Television Network.

The BAFTA Awards -- the EE British Academy Film Awards took place on 16 February at The Royal Opera House in London's Covent Garden. Actor Chris Hemsworth and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boone Isaacs announced the 86th Academy Awards nominations this morning, Thursday, January 16. Boone Isaacs and Hemsworth unveiled the nominations at a 5:38 a.m. PT live news conference at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, where hundreds of media representatives from around the world gathered.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced the nominations for the 2014 EE British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) and Gravity leads with 11 nominations, while 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle each received 10 nominations.
