The first major gallery exhibition of the NYC fall art season opened at The Cavalier Gallery with a seminal show entitled American Realism: Past and Present on Thursday, October 22nd. Over 100 guests including collectors, critics, and many of the featured artists attended the opening night wine reception at the Cavalier's stunning and expansive fourth floor space at 3 West 57th Street. ?Noted director and cinematographer Muta' Ali grandson of the legendary acting duo and social activists Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis will host the Hamptons' premiere of his loving tribute to his grandparents, 'Life's Essentials with Ruby Dee' as the closing film of the Raise Your Voice, the 9th Annual African American Film Festival presented by the Southampton African American Museum on Sunday, October 5 at the Southampton Arts Center, 25 Jobs Lane, Southampton, NY 11968.

4th Annual Communal Spaces Festival Moves to Brooklyn

Now in its fourth year, The Communal Spaces Festival will premiere eight new short plays inspired by and performed in community gardens in Bedford-Stuyvesant and Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. The festival will take place on the last weekend in August and the first two weekends in September. Previous festivals have included site specific performances in community gardens on the Lower East Side, East Village, Upper West Side and Harlem. In the past four years 27 new works have been presented. This year's titles include Washougal My Heart, COMPETE ME and ALTHEA THE GARDEN CANTATA.
