Chuck Smith to Direct STICK FLY at Windy City Playhouse

Windy City Playhouse, Chicago's newest Equity theater, announces the cast for its sophomore production, Lydia R. Diamond's award-winning Stick Fly. This wisecracking family drama is directed by Chuck Smith, director of the play's 2006 world premiere production in Chicago, fresh off his successful run of Two Trains Running at the Goodman. Smith directs a stellar cast featuring Tyrone Phillips, Celeste Cooper, Paige Collins, Michael Pogue, Kristen Magee and Phillip Edward Van Lear, reprising his role of the patriarch from the original production. Stick Fly runs May 27-July 5 at Windy City Playhouse, 3014 W. Irving Park. Press opening is Sunday, May 31 at 5:00pm.

Art Stars Shine at Awards Gala

LAGUNA BEACH, CA - In true academy award style, the best and brightest of Laguna's diverse artistic community enjoyed a star-studded evening on Sunday, April 12 as The Laguna Beach Alliance for the Arts (LBaa) recognized its stars and paid tribute to actor Joe Mantegna at the 9th Annual Art Star Awards held at [seven-degrees]. Attendees included 250 community and cultural leaders whose efforts allow Laguna Beach to enjoy worldwide recognition as a hub of artistic energy.

DM Playhouse to Present CHARLOTTE'S WEB, 5/1-17

Nominations for 6th Annual High School Music Awards, Presented at The Orpheum, Announced!

On Monday, May 11th at 7:00 p.m., students and supporters from 30 participating schools across the Mid-South will gather at The Orpheum for the 6th Annual High School Musical Theatre Awards. Modeled after the Tony Awards, the High School Musical Theatre Awards recognize achievements in all areas of high school musical theatre. This year, the Orpheum is proud to welcome Broadway and television star Kyle Dean Massey as this year's awards show host.

University of Chicago's Robert J. Zimmer, Steppenwolf's Martha Lavey and More Set for Arts Alliance Illinois Luncheon, 5/20

The third annual Arts Alliance Illinois Voices of a Creative State benefit luncheon will feature a keynote address by University of Chicago President Robert J. Zimmer, who will discuss the vital, transformational role the arts play in education and civic engagement. The event also will pay tribute to two individuals who have made profound and lasting contributions to Chicago's theater scene: Steppenwolf Theatre Artistic Director Martha Lavey and former Steppenwolf Executive Director David Hawkanson. Berkeley Rep Stages West Coast Premiere of HEAD OF PASSES, Now thru 5/24

Berkeley Repertory Theatre proudly welcomes MacArthur 'Genius' Award winner Tarell Alvin McCraney for the West Coast premiere of Head of Passes, a poignant and poetic story about the journey of family and faith, trial and tribulation. In a dilapidated house near the ever-shifting mouth of the Mississippi, Shelah's family gathers on a stormy night for her birthday -- bringing ghosts and secrets of the past with them. As her roof buckles under the weight of the rain, Shelah's convictions begin to wash away, leaving her to excavate the truths buried below. Directed by Tina Landau, the riveting Head of Passes comes to the Bay Area straight from its critically lauded world premiere in Chicago. Head of Passes is a co-production with the Public Theater in New York. It begins previews on Berkeley Rep's intimate Thrust Stage today, April 10, opens today, April 17, and runs through Sunday, May 24, 2015. Press night for Head of Passes will be held today, April 17, 2015.

Bonstelle Theatre Presents URINETOWN, Now thru 4/26

The Bonstelle Theatre closes its 2014-15 Season at Wayne State's Midtown theatre with the Tony Award-winning Urinetown: The Musical, playing tonight, April 17 - 26. A hit on Broadway and in London's West End, the wickedly smart book and lyrics satirize crony capitalism, while the score parodies popular musicals. Written by Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis, it was originally produced on Broadway in September, 2001 by the Araca Group and Dodger Theatricals in association with TheaterDreams, Inc., and Lauren Mitchell.
