BWW Reviews: FADE TO BLACK PLAY FESTIVAL at The Queensbury Theatre Bold, Black & Brilliantly-Beautiful

Last night I had the privilege to go to the 3rd annual FADE TO BLACK playwright's festival. Houston has its share of fringe events, but there wasn't a playwright's festival celebrating the works of black playwrights until Denise O'Neal conceived the FADE TO BLACK festival. In their 3rd year of operation, the FADE TO BLACK festival is on the rise and serves as a platform for the creative voices of black theatre artists of the future. Not only do the playwrights get the chance to show their work, actors and directors have an opportunity to flex their creative muscles. An esteemed panel of judges read a lot of plays and narrowed it down to 10 titles that were rehearsed and presented last night.

BWW Recap: Liza Gets Real with Josh on YOUNGER Season Finale

What a whirlwind Liza has been on this season! And unfortunately for her, it doesn't get ease up in the final installment - if anything, it's even more crazy!! As she tries to patch things up with Josh (remember, she came clean with him at the end of last week's episode), she's hit with another huge roadblock at work, which puts her in another awkward position which may not only lead to legal trouble, but commands her to face compromising her moral values. Though there are no literal fireworks present, it wouldn't be inaccurate to say this episode's an explosive finale, capping off a season of blunders and hijinks as only the YOUNGER writers can create.

BWW Reviews: BUDDY: THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY at Casa Manana

Before Broadway celebrated hit jukebox bio-musicals like JERSEY BOYS, MOTOWN THE MUSICAL or even MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, a little show opened in 1989 called BUDDY: THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY. Written about the famous singer's short-lived career as a successful twenty-something-old music icon with signature thick-rimmed glasses, BUDDY takes the audience on a rock-and-roll journey from the radio stations of Lubbock, Texas, all the way to New York's Apollo theatre, and eventually to his (spoiler alert) fateful plane ride. Although the Broadway production was short-lived, the show celebrated twelve years in London, and has had a successful life in regional and touring productions across the country.

Photo Coverage: Studio 54 is Celebrated by 54 Below with TURN THE BEAT AROUND

Scott Coulter brought the music of Studio 54 to Below 54 last night as the club celebrated it's 3rd year on that famous NYC street. In the legendary club's heyday the guest  list was a who's who from the world of entertainment - Andy Warhol, Liza Minnelli, Halston, Elizabeth Taylor, Mick Jagger, Diana Ross, Brooke Shields, John Travolta, Michael Jackson - and the music played kept them dancing all through the night. It was dancing through the night at 54 Below yesterday and Max at the entry door was much more accommodating than those guards at the 1970 Studio 54. Happy Anniversary to 54 Below and also to Steven & Eda (Baruch)

Douglass Seaver Promotes International Suspense Novel THE FOURTH RULE

Award winning author, Douglass Seaver is pleased to announce the promotion of his international suspense novel, 'The Fourth Rule.' 'The Fourth Rule' is a fast-paced, literary adrenalin rush. It's the story of a man's struggle to keep the secret of his brother's disappearance from the CIA. After returning from three years as a Green Beret in Vietnam, Mark Grant vanishes. Twenty-two years later, the CIA sends two private investigators to question Matthew Grant about his brother's disappearance. Matthew denies knowing anything, but the investigators don't believe him. For over two decades, he has lived the fourth rule-'tell no secrets,' but now he faces a serious challenge. Jack Straw, a rogue CIA agent, orchestrates a desperate manhunt to find out what happened to Mark, while Matthew races to find out why the CIA is interested in the secret he has kept for half his life. The action escalates as the rogue agent and Matthew struggle for advantage until the agent kidnaps Matthew's sixteen year old daughter to ransom her for information on Matthew's brother. One night the two meet halfway across the Brooklyn Bridge (the book cover) to exchange information on where Matthew's daughter is held and the location of Matthew's missing brother. The story reaches a climax when Matthew rescues his kidnapped daughter, kills the rogue agent, and prevents a terrible wrong from the past being repeated. The question of what happened to Mark Grant remains unanswered until the last paragraph in the book, when the secret is revealed to the reader, but not to any of the characters in the book. Thus, Matthew lives up to the fourth rule-'tell no secrets.' 'The Fourth Rule' is available in both print and eBook formats.
