The 2003 film Calendar Girls was produced in the US with a British cast starring Helen Mirren and Julie Walters. It is a delightful comedy and a sweet ode to women, who, dissatisfied with many lifestyle choices, try quite earnestly to raise the bar. In 2008 it was made into a play and has been a best seller in the UK, probably because it takes place in and pays homage to Yorkshire. Now under Larry Eisenberg's keen and caring direction, Calendar Girls, rarely produced in the US, has a sturdy production with a sterling cast at Group rep in NoHo through October 9.

When one describes a meal or a performance as 'interesting,' it's usually a euphemism for awful, or at least deeply flawed. But Rosemary Loar's STING*chronicity, the musical theater and cabaret performer's second show devoted to Sting's songbook, is genuinely interesting---and ballsy. Featuring 13 characters who share little beyond a profound love for Sting (and mutual attendance at the Police reunion tour at Madison Square Garden in 2007), the show presents Loar's highly stylized and unusual interpretations of songs both from the Police era and Sting's forays into jazz as a solo artist.

The Group Rep presents Tim Firth's comedy CALENDAR GIRLS, based on the motion picture by Juliette Towhidi and Firth, directed by Larry Eisenberg, and produced for the Group Rep by Drina Durazo. The show runs tonight, August 26, through October 9, 2016, and BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra announces a new location for its 2016- 2017 CSO Chamber Players series. The four-concert series will take place at Christ Church Cathedral, Fourth and Sycamore, downtown Cincinnati. Seating will be configured in the venue to allow for up-close intimate chamber concert experiences. The CSO Chamber Players series offers a more intimate space for audiences to experience the individual and collaborative artistry of CSO musicians up-close. This season the CSO Chamber Players will present concerts on Nov. 11, 2016, Jan. 6, 2017, Feb. 3, 2017, and May 12, 2017.

Music educator and violinist Cheryl Scheidemantle has been named Chair of the Los Angeles Children's Chorus (LACC) Board of Directors, and Debra Danner, an educator with expertise in leadership and management consulting, has been appointed LACC's Executive Director.

Just announced, Second Stage Theatre's New York Premiere production of NOTES FROM THE FIELD: DOING TIME IN EDUCATION, the latest work created, written and performed by groundbreaking theatre artist Anna Deavere Smith with music composed and performed by Marcus Shelby and directed by Leonard Foglia, will open on November 2, 2016 at the Tony Kiser Theatre (305 West 43rd Street). Previews will begin on October 15.
