YELLOW SOUND LABEL will release the world premiere recording of the acclaimed new musical TAMAR OF THE RIVER on September 23, 2014. The album is currently available for pre-order at iTunes and Amazon.com. TAMAR OF THE RIVER features music by Marisa Michelson and lyrics by Joshua H. Cohen and was directed by Daniel Goldstein (Godspell), with choreography by Chase Brock (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, Picnic). The show was nominated for two 2014 Drama Desk Awards, including "Outstanding Actress in a Musical" for Margo Seibert, who made her Broadway debut last season as Adrian in Rocky. The Public Theater begins free performances for the community-based Public Works production of Shakespeare's THE WINTER'S TALE, conceived and directed by Obie Award winner Lear deBessonet, with music and lyrics by Todd Almond, and choreography by Chase Brock tonight, September 5.
La Jolla Playhouse announces the cast for its upcoming U.S. premiere musical, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, featuring a score by the multiple Academy, Grammy and Tony Award-winning team of composer Alan Menken (Newsies, Little Shop of Horrors) and lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin), book by Peter Parnell (The West Wing, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever) and direction by Scott Schwartz (Playhouse's Jane Eyre, Broadway's Golda's Balcony). Produced in association with Paper Mill Playhouse, by special arrangement with Disney Theatrical Productions, The Hunchback of Notre Dame will run October 26 - December 7, 2014 in the Playhouse's Mandell Weiss Theatre.
New York Theatre Ballet announces the 2014-15 season, which will include a national tour and repertory performances at the 92nd Street Y (January 10-12, 2015), New York Live Arts (February 18-21, 2015) and Danspace (June 17-20, 2015). Theatre Aspen's new play development series is underway, with the early workshopping of Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater musical Alice By Heart, based on the Lewis Carroll novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland this Saturday, May 31st, at the Wheeler Opera House at 7:30 pm. Sheik and Sater are best known for their 2007 rock musical Spring Awakening which won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score.
