Synetic Theater will host 'Arlington Night' on Wednesday, February 12. Arlington residents will mingle at a pre-show reception at the Marriott Crystal City, located just above the theater, before taking in the hit show Twelfth Night.
Synetic Theater transforms into the Illyria Speakeasy for a special pre-show event on Thursday February 13 at 7pm. Guests will pick up their tickets and give a bouncer the password to enter Illyria, a 1920s-style speakeasy! Music and decor from the era will set the mood and a guest mixologist will keep the signature cocktails flowing at an open bar. At 8pm, guests will head into the theater to take in the 1920s-set Twelfth Night. Costumes are highly encouraged! The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) regrets to announce that due to a sudden family emergency, Maestra Marin Alsop will not be conducting the January 30-February 1 performances of two classic 1920's Charlie Chaplin films, The Idle Class and The Kid. The BSO is very grateful to Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly for stepping in at short notice to lead this weekend's performances. The program will remain unchanged.
Gregory Porter has won his first Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album Liquid Spirit. Porter's award was announced at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards held on Sunday, January 26, 2014 in Los Angeles.
Singer Karyn Levitt, with pianist Eric Ostling, will perform Eric Bentley's Brecht-Eisler Song Book, a unique evening that features the songs of Austrian composer Hanns Eisler (1898-1962), set to poetry by Bertolt Brecht and other noted writers, in English versions by Eric Bentley, Monday February 3 at 7:30 PM at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia/Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway (entrance on 95th Street). Eric Bentley, now 97 years old, is the first translator into English of Brecht's plays and poems, introducing Brecht's work to American stages in the 1940's and 50's. Bentley has now unlocked Hanns Eisler's starkly beautiful songs, many set to poems by Brecht, to be performed by soprano Karyn Levitt, with whom he has worked closely since 2011.

In a special concert on Valentine's Day, Friday, February 14, at 8:00 p.m., The Cleveland Orchestra presents the romantic cinematic masterpiece Casablanca, shown on a giant screen above the stage in Severance Hall, with the Orchestra performing the film score. The concert is part of the Orchestra's acclaimed Celebrity Series for the 2013-14 season. The Cleveland Orchestra will be conducted by William Eddins, whose previous engagements with the Orchestra have included conducting the musical accompaniments to the Charlie Chaplin films City Lights and Modern Times.

Responding to audience demand, Synetic Theater has added two performances to the run of their 10th 'silent Shakespeare' Adaptation, Twelfth Night, January 9 - February 16, 2014. Regular performances are Wednesday through Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm. The two additional Saturday performances will take place on February 8 and 15 at 2 p.m.
