The New School's newly formed College of Performing Arts, led by"firebrand" (New York Times) Executive Dean Richard Kessler, is pleased to announce winter-spring public programming highlights for the College's three schools: Mannes School of Music, The School of Jazz and The School of Drama. Performances will take place at the College's new performing arts hub-designed by Deborah Berke Partners at Arnhold Hall (55 West 13th Street)-as well as at The New School's Tishman Auditorium at University Center (63 Fifth Avenue), The Theater at the School of Drama (151 Bank Street) and venues throughout the city. Luigi was the father of jazz. A teacher for all who wanted to dance. The Benefit-Tribute Concert on December 28, 2015 showcased a plethora of performers, all of which expressed their gratitude in song, dance, words, and in their presence.
Lo and behold, The Plaza Hotel once again has music. Located up a flight of stairs where once the legendary Persian Room stood, The Rose Club is a comfortable two tiered bar and lounge with a varied menu and specialty cocktails. Service is excellent. This all but unknown refuge is a good place to meet for a drink or snack and decompress in pleasant, upscale surroundings. Wednesday nights, the excellent Kat Gang and her trio--Matthew Fries on keyboard, Phil Palombi on bass, Tim Bulkley on drums--hold forth during three sets from 8:30-11:30 pm. Though drinks are hotel priced, there is NO cover making this good value.
