Daniel Beaty Closes One-Man Play THROUGH THE NIGHT in NYC, 5/23

The Riverside Theatre, Voza Rivers/New Heritage Theatre, and Walk Tall Girl Productions will present Obie Award-winner Daniel Beaty in his new solo play THROUGH THE NIGHT. Directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, the New York Premiere of THROUGH THE NIGHT will end its limited engagement, May 23, 2010 at The Riverside Theatre, 91 Claremont Avenue.

SOPHISTICATED LADIES Becomes Best Selling Show In Arena History

Arena Stage announced today that at 9:00 a.m. EST, Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies, directed by Charles Randolph-Wright and starring and choreographed by Maurice Hines, officially became the best selling show in company history based upon gross sales.

Arena Stage Extends SOPHISTICATED LADIES Through 6/6

Arena Stage has announced that its smash-hit production of Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies will extend its run at the historic Lincoln Theatre with six additional performances through June 6, 2010. The production, choreographed by and starring the legendary Maurice Hines and directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, has broken several long-standing sales records, and is on track to become the highest grossing show in Arena's history, replacing the 2002 production of South Pacific directed by Molly Smith.

Photo Coverage: New Dramatists Honor Julie Taymor

New Dramatists, Tony Honor recipient and one of the nation's premiere playwright development workshop, honored two-time Tony Award winner Julie Taymor with their 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award at its 61st Annual Spring Luncheon tribute, to be held Tuesday, May 18th at the New York Marriott Marquis. Ms. Taymor's award was presented to her by Academy Award winning actress Helen Mirren, who stars in Taymor's soon-to-be-released film adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest. Thomas Schumacher of Disney Theatricals served as the Luncheon Chair. Disney Theatricals and Robert Boyett were the benefactors for New Dramatists 61st Annual Spring Luncheon.

Arena Stage today announced that its smash-hit production of Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies will extend its run at the historic Lincoln Theatre with six additional performances through June 6, 2010.

Arena Stage Artistic Director Molly Smith announces the D.C.-based pioneering theater company's 60th season filled with award-winning artists and projects to celebrate the grand opening of Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. The 2010/11 inaugural season includes eight full productions, seven presentations from the National Endowment for the Arts New Play Development Program and public readings from all 30 of Edward Albee's works, totaling at least 45 projects produced and presented by Arena Stage in the inaugural year at the Mead Center. With the opening next fall, Arena Stage will fully become a national center for production, presentation, development and study of American theater.

The Rep's ROUTE 66 Gets Extension Through 5/9

Now through May 9, The Rep will be presenting Route 66, an all-new production, featuring some of the most popular songs of the road. The cast includes Danny Calvert, Adam Estes, Zachary Dylan Robbins, and Justin Robinson. Rep Stage Ends Run of Eric Overmyer's 'On the Verge or The Geography of Yearning' 5/2

Rep Stage, the professional Equity theatre in residence at Howard Community College (HCC), will end its production of Eric Overmyer's 'On the Verge or The Geography of Yearning' on May 2nd. Mel Gussow, in his New York Times review of 'On the Verge...' wrote, 'Blending Tom Stoppard's limber linguistics with the historic overview of a Thornton Wilder, Mr. Overmyer takes his audience on a mirthful safari that leads from darkest Africa to Terra Incognita, spinning into time travel.'
