Following on the heels of Arena Stage's wildly successful public opening with the Homecoming Grand Opening Celebration Saturday, October 23, 2010, the company celebrated the completion of a decade-long journey to reopen its new home in Southwest D.C. with an Opening Gala Celebration Monday, October 25, 2010. This black-tie gala kicks off the inaugural season at the breathtaking new Mead Center theater complex and supports all of Arena Stage's programs, including the exciting work on our stages, our investment in new play development and our wide range of community engagement activities.

As Arena Stage begins a new life in its renovated home at the Mead Center for American Theater in Southwest D.C., it opens its inaugural season with a classic American musical that similarly embraces life on a new frontier. Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! is the first production at the Mead Center and features an all-star cast under the direction of Artistic Director Molly Smith. Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! runs October 22-December 26, 2010 in the Fichandler Stage.

Daniel Beaty's acclaimed solo show Through the Night has received a slew of honors throughout the month of October. The production has been nominated for the 2010 Vivian Robinson AUDELCO Recognition Award for Best Solo Performance.

Created in 1971, the Paul Robeson Award recognizes a person who best exemplifies the principles by which Mr. Robeson lived.

Last night, October 7, Love, Loss, and What I Wore playwrights Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron, and the show's newest cast members, Barbara Feldon ('Get Smart'), Tovah Feldshuh (Irena's Vow), Aisha de Haas (Caroline, Or Change), Ashley Austin Morris (Die Mommie Die) and Erin Dilly (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) were welcomed by Love, Loss alumnae Kristin Chenoweth, Katie Finneran, Natasha Lyonne, Didi Conn, Stacy London, Julie Halston, Penny Fuller, Judy Gold, Allison Mack, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Myra Lucretia Taylor and guests Pauletta Washington, Alison Fraser, Amy Rutberg, Daniel Beaty, Charles Randolph Wright and more. Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) in association with David Pugh & Dafydd Rogers and Cineworld opened the Kneehigh Theatre's production of Noël Coward's Brief Encounter, adapted and directed by Emma Rice last night, September 28, on Broadway. Through the Night is being presented with the enthusiastic participation of a 'Who's Who' of artists and influencers who will act as Artistic Ambassadors for the production.

This fall marks the fifth year of the successful partnership between Arena Stage-now home in its expanded venue the Mead Center for American Theater in Southwest D.C.-and the Georgetown University Theater and Performance Studies Program.

Producer Daryl Roth today announced that she will present Through the Night, the acclaimed solo show written and performed by Daniel Beaty, in an extended run Off Broadway, beginning performances September 10 at The Union Square Theatre.

On August 26, Arena Stage held a reception at Sardi's to celebrate its transition from a regional theater to a national center, the new playwriting residencies and the multi-million dollar expansion/renovation of Arena's historic campus into the Mead Center for American Theater.
