The Echo Theater Company has found a permanent space for 2014, taking up residency at Atwater Village Theatre for a year-long season of three world premieres and the revival of an acclaimed holiday show.
For the past week, BroadwayWorld has been counting down the final days of 2013 with video tributes to our 13 favorite musical moments of this year. Now that the ball has dropped and 2014 has officially arrived, we shift gears and look ahead to what is to come in 2014. Below, we count-up to the 14 theatrical events of 2014 that we are most excited for!
If you need a booster shot of Christmas cheer and like it syrupy and sweet, Elf is a new Christmas classic for you. Catch the show at the Kennedy Center through January 5, 2014.
It's amazing how many Hollywood comedies, cult and otherwise, have been turned into musicals, some successfully, some not so much. Which brings us to ELF, freely adapted from the amusing Will Ferrell vehicle of the same name, but lacking his particular comedic talents. That's not to say there isn't an audience for this show. Packed houses with families in tow seem to be eating up the playful nature of this holiday fare, and it's understandable. I brought my son along and he had a jolly good time as well.
NETworks Presentations, LLC, Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures and Unique Features bring the Broadway musical ELF to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami- Dade County from December 31 to January 5, 2014. To celebrate the arrival of ELF (and 2014), snow will rain down into the Center's Ziff Ballet Opera House lobby during intermission on opening night, December 31. ELF is part of the Broadway in Miami 2013-2014 subscription season presented by Bank of America. Tickets for ELF are on-sale now and range from $26.00 - $96.00*. For tickets visit www.arshtcenter.org, or call the Box Office at (305) 949-6722. Groups of 10 or more should call (786) 468-2326 or (954) 626-7814.
A hilarious fish-out-of-water comedy, Pioneer Theatre Company's ELF THE MUSICAL is also a heartwarming love letter to the spirit of Christmas. If you want to see a holiday-themed show this season (and why wouldn't you?), ELF THE MUSICAL is hands-down the best choice in Utah this year.
This holiday season, BroadwayWorld brings you a look at some of our favorite shows playing across the country. Take a break from the hustle and bustle and treat your family to some of our theatrical favorites, now playing nationwide.
ELF, a holiday themed musical, first opened on Broadway in 2010. With the 2003 motion picture of the same title starring Will Ferrell as source material, theatergoers all over were interested in the sugarcoated musical. Negative reviews lead to a re-tooling of the show, and it returned to Broadway in 2012 in addition to having a mini tour of the US. Now, in 2013, Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) is bringing the confection to Houston audiences with a locally produced production of the saccharine holiday confection that is rather donuts for dinner.

Elf, the Christmas musical now on stage at London's Grand Theatre is an endearing show, thanks to a funny, well-written script, and a six foot four Elf who can deliver the lines. Liam Tobin is perfect as Buddy the Elf: He's taken the best that Will Ferrell had in the movie version of Elf, but his portrayal of the 30 year old child-like character is more reminiscent of Tom Hanks in 1988 movie Big. Either way, Tobin has made Buddy very lovable and almost believable.
Due to popular demand - and just in time for the holidays, Disney's Aladdin is releasing additional seats for performances between December 17 through January 5. The additional seats will go on sale Monday November 25 at 9AM.
It was a true 'Arabian Night' in Toronto where the Broadway bound production of Disney's Aladdin had it's 'world premiere' last night. Promising to be a revamped interpretation of the classic 1992 cartoon film, the show had the unbelievable sights but sadly struggled with the indescribable feelings. BWW is thrilled to bring its readers one of the first reviews of this brand new production.
