SCR to Present OZ 2.5, 5/22-6/7

L. Frank Baum's beloved classic story of Dorothy and her friends in the land of Oz gets a reboot-literally-in a video game setting. OZ 2.5, a world premiere by Catherine Trieschmann, wraps up the Theatre for Young Audiences season at South Coast Repertory, May 22-June 7, on the Julianne Argyros stage. WAM Theatre to Present Developmental Workshop of HOLY LAUGHTER This Fall

As WAM Theatre prepares for its second Fresh Takes play reading of the season, artistic director Kristen van Ginhoven has announced that this year's fall production will be the first developmental workshop production of Holy Laughter by Catherine Trieschmann, directed by Megan Sandberg-Zakian.

How do you decide what is deserving to be considered as art both monetarily and sociologically? Yes, it's all very subjective and depending on the person but for me, especially with theater, it needs to convey some sort of message or at least an engaging story. Unfortunately the current production of "The Most Deserving" at Theater Schmeater missed the mark in those regards as it failed to engage me on a number of levels and came across more as watching a bland Lifetime Original movie mixed with the Government Access Channel.

Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre, professional Theatre in Residence at Oakes Center in Summit, is producing the New Jersey premiere of Catherine Trieschmann's The Most Deserving. This comedy recently played Off-Broadway at The Women's Project, after having made its debut at the Denver New Play Summit. The Most Deserving plays February 12 through March 1, with talkbacks following the February 15 and 22 matinees.

Manhattan Theatre Club announces the upcoming Sloan Panel Discussion on Constellations, which will be held following the Thursday, January 15 performance of the play at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street), and is open to anyone attending the evening's performance. The panel, which will be presented in partnership with the World Science Festival, will focus on the role of science in the play and will feature playwright Nick Payne and Brian Greene, professor of Physics and Mathematics at Columbia University and co-founder of the World Science Festival. Social commentator Faith Salie will moderate.

Milwaukee Ave., November 22 - December 21. The Denver Center for the Performing Arts has announced the expansion of the Theatre Company's 10th annual Colorado New Play Summit. The enlargement coincides with the Women's Voices Fund endowment surpassing the one million dollar mark. The festival of new work will take place over two weekends, 2/14-2/15 and 2/21-2/22 and will feature new plays by four of the industry's hottest playwrights; Jason Gray Platt, Theresa Rebeck, Tanya Saracho, and Catherine Trieschmann.

Josh Sobel Named New Artistic Director of Haven Theatre

Haven Theatre Company and Executive Director Carol Cohen have announced Josh Sobel as the organization's newly appointed artistic director. Sobel is an established freelance director in the Chicago storefront theater scene, having worked with a variety of companies such as A Red Orchid Theatre, The Ruckus, Collaboraction, New Leaf Theatre and Strawdog Theatre Company, where he also serves as literary manager and ensemble member. In addition to assuming the role of artistic director for Haven Theatre Company, Sobel will be directing We Three at the side project this fall and The Pied Piper at Strawdog Theatre Company next summer. He is a graduate of Oberlin College.

WAM Theatre's Fresh Takes Play Reading Series Concludes with WAXWORKS, 9/21

WAM Theatre has announced the cast for a reading of Waxworks by Trina Davies, the final reading in the Fresh Takes Play Reading Series. An exploration of the tales we are told and the heroes and villains we create, Waxworks tells the story of Madame Tussaud, an extraordinary artist who developed the first worldwide entertainment brand. WAM Theatre will present the reading on Sunday, September 21 at 3:00 p.m. at No. Six Depot Roastery and Cafe, 6 Depot Street in West Stockbridge, MA. Waxworks is the fifth and final presentation in the new Fresh Takes play reading series, which offers new and reimagined works that tell women's stories. The series has proven popular with audiences, selling out its first four readings.
