Theatre Aspen announced the lineup for its 33rd season today. The Hurst Theatre opens with the regional premiere of the megahit musical MAMMA MIA!, running in repertory with the one man comedy Buyer and Cellar and the musical Dear Edwina. The organization also announced the return of the Aspen Theatre Festival for new work at the end of August.

Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus' MAMMA MIA!, the smash hit musical based on the songs of ABBA, returns to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre March 29 - April 3, 2016. Performances begin on Tuesday, March 29 and run through Sunday, April 3.

Award winning star of TV and theatre, Catherine Tate (Assassins, The Catherine Tate Show, The Vote, Doctor Who) and Dean John-Wilson (Aladdin, Here Lies Love), who takes lead role in Disney's Aladdin this summer, will lead the cast in the new musical comedy Miss Atomic Bomb, alongside musical theatre stars Florence Andrews (A Little Night Music, Annie Get Your Gun), Simon Lipkin (The Lorax, Assassins, Rock of Ages, Avenue Q) and Daniel Boys (Any Dream Will Do, Avenue Q, Spamalot) as it explodes into the UK for its World Premiere at the St James Theatre, Victoria, in Spring 2016. The production will be running from 7 March for a strictly limited five week season, with press night on 14 March 2016.

Theatre Royal Plymouth Artistic Director Simon Stokes today announces the full cast for his production of James Graham's Monster Raving Loony.  Samuel James takes the role of Screaming Lord Sutch, with Joseph Alessi, Camilla Beeput, Joanna Brookes, Jack Brown playing a number of different characters. The production opens on Wednesday 10th February, with previews from Saturday 6th February, and runs until Sat 27th February.

Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus' MAMMA MIA!, the smash hit musical based on the songs of ABBA, will play San Jose's Center for the Performing Arts (255 S. Almaden Blvd.) for five performances only - June 3 - 5, 2016. 

San Francisco Opera today announced new details of its soon-to-be-completed $21 million renovation of 38,000 square feet in the Veterans Building's fourth floor and basement named the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera. Adjacent to the War Memorial Opera House, the Wilsey Center for Opera is scheduled to open in late February 2016, and consolidates most of the Company's operations into a single campus in the vibrant and emerging arts district of San Francisco's Civic Center. The 1932 Beaux Arts-designed Veterans Building recently reopened in September following a 26-month, City-financed $156 million seismic retrofit and renovation of the historic Herbst Theatre, Green Room, meeting rooms, offices and corridors throughout the first three floors.

The West End production is now in its seventeenth year. Today in 2001, Mamma Mia opened at the Winter Garden Theatre, where it is still running. Mamma Mia! is a stage musical written by British playwright Catherine Johnson, based on the songs of ABBA, composed by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, former members of the band. The musical includes such hits as 'Super Trouper', 'Lay All Your Love On Me', 'Dancing Queen', 'Knowing Me, Knowing You', 'Take A Chance On Me', 'Thank You for the Music', 'Money, Money, Money', 'The Winner Takes It All', 'Voulez Vous' and 'SOS'. Over 42 million people have seen the show, which has grossed $2 billion dollars worldwide since its 1999 debut.
