EVITA began as a rock opera concept album. The success of the album led to the 1978 production on London's West End and the 1979 production on Broadway. With a slew of regional productions, revivals, and tours, EVITA continues to capture the hearts of audiences, and the U.S. National Tour of the 2012 Broadway Revival production is a prime example of why.

This production of EVITA is the most beautiful,... visually stunning. The re-conception of the orchestrations are wonderful. Audiences will really enjoy EVITA.
Evita opened at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday night. After seeing the production on Broadway last winter (and being thoroughly disappointed), I went into this performance with an open mind, hoping that the performance would be better than in New York. Luckily, this production outshone that of the Broadway one by far.

Now, I'm not saying she isn't special, it's just that she doesn't have any super distinguishing features---big ears, a weird jaw, a lazy eye, a disproportionate body---she looks like a normal person and that's not a bad thing. I am not sure which leg of the national tour that Denver is positioned, but the show just felt tired and devoid of the fiery passion that is the Argentinian spirit.

I've never particularly warmed to Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Evita". Like most of his shows it just feels like a lot of flash and very little substance. So I can't really come at this production from the point of view of a fan of the show but I can point out some truly stirring performances within it.
