BWW Interview: Christian Thompson of RENT 20th Anniversary Tour

BroadwayWorld San Francisco spoke with Christian Thompson, who plays Benny in the 20th anniversary tour of RENT, coming to San Francisco February 7 - 19. Thompson tells us about the universal themes found in the musical, his own favorite Bohemian activity for each tour stop and, of course, love.

BWW Interview: Sarah Primmer of CINDERELLA at Palace Theater

You may think you know the story of CINDERELLA, but when the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical plays at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised. This updated version which recently closed an award-winning debut on Broadway will take the stage in Waterbury for four performances February 24 - 26. Playing the evil stepmother, Madame, will be Connecticut native, Sarah Primmer. I had the pleasure of speaking with Sarah and learning about her experience with this magical musical.

BWW Review: Think Big with THE BIG BROADCAST ON EAST 53rd at the TBG Theatre

In association with Playalinda Productions, playwright Dick Brukenfeld and Director Charles Maryan come together to present the World Premiere of The Big Broadcast on East 53rd, now in performances at the TBG Theatre (actually off of 36th Street), What I can only describe as one whirlwind of a show that manages to keep both one's physical and mental momentum moving, Broadcast is performed on a small stage on which actors with big talent, big presences and big personalities romp around as though it were a playground where the imagination runs rampant.

Photo Flash: GEORGIE: MY ADVENTURES WITH GEORGE ROSE, Starring Ed Dixon, Opens Tonight!

Producers Martin Platt and David Elliott with Mary Cossette, Jamie deRoy, Riki Kane Larimer, Richard Winkler, and Mike Blank, present the New York premiere of Georgie: My Adventures with George Rose, the new play written by and starring Ed Dixon (Sunset Boulevard, LES MISERABLES) with direction by Eric Schaeffer (Follies, Million Dollar Quartet).

BWW Review: Angelica Page Brilliantly Lives Out Her Mother's Life and Career in TURNING PAGE

Angelica Page stands quietly stage left and watches a home movie of herself on a giant rear screen. She sees a seemingly innocent little girl running around and playing with her mother Geraldine Page. When the film is over, she steps forward ever so slowly into the spotlight and addresses the audience fearlessly, 'My mother is haunting me.' At that precise moment, we sense we are in good hands. The family talent assuredly has rubbed off on Angelica Page, and we are in for a brilliantly honed theatrical evening.

BWW Review: In 13 THINGS ABOUT ED CARPOLOTTI, Penny Fuller Musically Shares Memories from a Well-Loved Life

After Penny Fuller approached Barry Kleinbort to create a musical version of Hatcher's play for her to perform as a cabaret artist, 13 Things About Ed Carpolotti was originally developed at The Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center Cabaret and Performance Conference in Summer 2012 and had its New York premiere in December 2012. The two have a natural affinity for knowing what works well for both of them, and the musical spark between Fuller and her accompanist Paul Greenwood lights up the stage.

BWW Interview: Crystal Kellogg of FINDING NEVERLAND

BroadwayWorld San Francisco talks with Crystal Kellogg, Mary Barrie and the understudy for Sylvia in Finding Neverland. Kellogg joins the tour after performing in the Broadway production and tells us about changes to the musical, the history behind the story and her own personal connection to the Bay Area.

BWW Review: Cute but Uninspired FINDING NEVERLAND at Paramount

Lord, save us from pop songwriters who think they can write musical theater. Sure, some transition successfully but this would not be the case for Gary Barlow and Eliot Kennedy who have given us the completely unmemorable "Finding Neverland", currently playing at the Paramount Theatre. And if the lackluster music weren't enough, the show is also weighed down by a book from James Graham and direction from Diane Paulus who it seems had no idea what story they wanted to tell as there seemed to be two distinct shows happening and neither of them were very good.

Cast of off-Broadway's CAGNEY Proves 'The Show Must Go On'!

The cast of off-Broadway's hit musical CAGNEY, which follows the life of the legendary James Cagney from the streets of New York to one of Hollywood's brightest stars, proved the old adage that the show must go on.
