Children's Theatre Company (CTC) announces the world premiere production of Dr. Seuss' The Sneetches The Musical which opened on February 7, 2017. Directed by Peter C. Brosius, the production is written by Philip Dawkins, whose many works have been produced from Canada to Washington DC to Los Angeles, and upcoming at the MCC Theatre (Off-Broadway), with music by David Mallamud, whose works have been heard at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center and Off-Broadway. This new production is the third Dr. Seuss work that CTC has commissioned in a historical partnership that dates back to the first production in 1979 of Dr. Seuss's The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins. It is also the first Dr. Seuss commission since 1994 when Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas premiered at CTC before it became the Old Globe Theatre's annual holiday show and its Broadway transfer. CTC retains the exclusive rights to produce and perform both works in Minnesota.
Violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and Pianist Lambert Orkis to Tour the U.S., Spring 2017

Globally-renowned violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and her longtime musical partner pianist Lambert Orkis give 11 performances across the United States in Spring 2017. The duo have spent nearly 30 years making music together, resulting in numerous successful Deutsche Grammophon recordings, earning Grammy® Awards, an ECHO Award, as well as a Choc de l'Année Award. The recital program will be played in seven cities including San Francisco's Davies Symphony Hall, New York's Carnegie Hall and Washington DC's Kennedy Center, with a program including works by Sebastian Currier – who previously wrote a number of other works for Mrs. Mutter such as Aftersong (1994) and Ringtone Variations (2013) - Mozart, Respighi, and Saint-Saëns. Mrs. Mutter concludes the tour with a four-date engagement with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Andris Nelsons, where the concert program features selections by Tchaikovsky and Nostalghia by Toru Takemitsu, which Mrs. Mutter played at her 35th Anniversary concert of her Japanese debut.

Returning to the US for the first time since 2012, the storied Bamberg Symphony of Germany will embark on a nine-city tour with Christoph Eschenbach conducting, and with violin soloist Ray Chen performing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64, and the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, in various cities.

American Composers Orchestra (ACO), under the leadership of Artistic Director Derek Bermel and Music Director George Manahan, continues its 40th Anniversary Season on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 7:30pm with Orchestra Underground: Past Forward at Carnegie Hall's subterranean Zankel Hall. Now in its 13th year, Orchestra Underground continues as ACO's subversive and entrepreneurial redefinition of the orchestra as an elastic ensemble. Pianist Kirill Gerstein assumes a variety of roles-solo recitalist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist-in New York- and New Jersey-based performances from Thursday, February 23, to Wednesday, March 1. First he performs Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto in four concerts (February 23-26) with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra conducted by Xian Zhang. The next evening at 7:30 p.m., he gives a solo recital at the McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, performing works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Liszt. He concludes his concerts with a chamber performance of Brahms's Piano Quintet with the Hagen Quartet at Carnegie's Zankel Hall on Wednesday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m.
