The producers of the critically acclaimed AMERICAN IDIOT announced today that Green Day frontman and the musical's composer/ co-author Billie Joe Armstrong will make his Broadway debut as "St. Jimmy" Tuesday, September 28 through Sunday, October 3, 2010 at the St. James Theatre, 246 West 44 Street. Immediately following this engagement, Mr. Armstrong will join Green Day in Caracas, Venezuela on October 8, 2010 to kick off their South American Tour. Original Broadway cast member and current "St. Jimmy," Tony Vincent, will resume performances on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 following a leave of absence due to a personal family matter. Vincent's understudies, Joshua Kobak and Andrew Call, will cover the role from Tuesday, October 5 - Sunday, October 10, 2010.

Last night, September 13, the cast of AMERICAN IDIOT joined Green Day onstage for the halftime show of the NY Jets game at the New Meadowlands Stadium, performing a rendition of Green Day's Last Of The American Girls. Yesterday, March 11, work on AMERICAN IDIOT was temporarily delayed when a fire broke out in the elevator shaft of the St. James Theatre. While an initial report into the FDNY indicated that someone was trapped inside the elevator, upon arrival firefighters confirmed that while the fire did indeed initiate in the elevator shaft, no one was inside. The building was evacuated and no one was harmed. The cause of the fire is still unknown and under investigation.

This year's Critics Circle Awards, sponsored by Actor's Equity Association, today announced is nominees for excellence in San Francisco Bay area theater. Berkeley Rep's production of American Idiot, which played in the fall of 2009, leads with 12 nominations and will open on Broadway this spring.
