BWW Review: SHAKESPEARE TRILOGY, King's Cross Theatre, 22 November 2016
by Marianka Swain
- Nov 23, 2016
'Inmates, coming through.' That's our introduction to Phyllida Lloyd's landmark trilogy, as the homogenised prisoners are steered through the audience by prison officers. But this extraordinarily empathetic project, developed with Clean Break, gives those inmates individual voices and means of expression, while the all-female cast that inhabit them gives new voice to three familiar plays.

BWW Review: THE RED BARN, National Theatre, 17 October 2016
by Marianka Swain
- Oct 18, 2016
It was a dark and stormy night. Two couples are caught in a snowstorm on their way back from a party. Three of them arrive at a remote Connecticut farmhouse. One disappears. There's a definite pleasure in this familiar story, immaculately told in David Hare's adaptation of Georges Simenon's novel La Main. The noir thriller tropes are all in place, from femme fatales and gnawing jealousy to paranoia about what lies beneath.

BWW Review: THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME Wows at the Kennedy Center
by Jennifer Perry
- Oct 10, 2016
Let's just get right down to it. In 2014, Simon Stephens' highly acclaimed and award-winning play THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME (based on Mark Haddon's novel of the same name) offered me one of my most memorable Broadway theatergoing experiences in years. Thus, I was most enthused by the news that it would tour, and play the Kennedy Center. While the cavernous Opera House may not be the most appropriate Kennedy Center space to view the play - especially from the rear orchestra where I was sitting - the current tour offers just as powerful of a theatergoing experience as my initial one.
