Twyla Tharp, CITY OF CONVERSATION, Israel Philharmonic and More Set for The Wallis Center's 2015-16 Season

Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts (The Wallis -- Tania Camargo, Managing Director; Patricia Wolff, Interim Artistic Director; James D'Asaro, Interim Producing Director) announce Artistic Advisors and programming for the 2015-2016 Season, opening October 1-3 with Twyla Tharp: a 50th Anniversary Celebration, a program of new work by Ms. Tharp, co-commissioned by The Wallis (in partnership with the John F. Fugard Theatre's A HUMAN BEING DIED THAT NIGHT Begins at BAM Tonight

In this taut 2013 theatrical adaptation of Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela's award winning-book, the apartheid regime's most notorious assassin and head of its death squad, Eugene de Kock (played by Matthew Marsh), sits opposite psychologist Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela (played Noma Dumezweni) in Pretoria Central Prison in 1997. Gobodo-Madikizela is a member of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission determined to understand his actions. She questions de Kock, who is sentenced to two life terms plus 212 years for crimes against humanity, murder, conspiracy to murder, attempted murder, assault, kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms, and fraud.

The Civilians Announces Participants of 2013-14 R&D Group

The Civilians, the award-winning New York-based theatre company, announces the members of its 2013-14 R & D Group. The group's emerging and established artists were selected from over one hundred applicants. The R & D Group is comprised of artists from multiple theatrical disciplines. Each artist or creative team will develop an original work over the season. The artists and projects were selected to represent a range of different strategies for making new work from creative inquiry and research. This diversity of approach helps feed a culture of innovation in the group, making the R & D Group an effective lab of experimentation for the field of investigative theater.

Photo Coverage: Inside The Headstrong Project's WORDS OF WAR

The Headstrong Project hosted Words of War in support of comprehensive mental healthcare for military veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. This presentation of wartime poetry, literature, theater and letters articulate the exuberance and ideals that drive men to war, the thrill and horror of combat, the difficulties of returning home, and the experience of family members worried about their loved one at war. Rattlestick Playwrights Theater Artistic Director David Van Asselt and Managing Director Brian Long have announced the cast and creative team for the world premiere of Through the Yellow Hour, a play written and directed by Adam Rapp (Pulitzer Prize finalist for Red Light Winter). The first production of the company's 18th season, Through the Yellow Hour will begin performances tonight, September 13, 2012 at Rattlestick Theater (224 Waverly Place-off Seventh Avenue South, between Perry and West 11th Streets). The cast includes Hani Furstenberg, Brian Mendes, Matt Pilieci, Danielle Slavick, Alok Tewari, Joanne Tucker, and Vladimir Versailles.

THEATER OF WAR Makes Chicago Debut This Month

Theater of War Productions, a social impact company that presents readings of ancient Greek plays, will present two free performances in collaboration with Goodman Theatre and Rivendell Theatre Ensemble. Rivendell Artistic Director Tara Mallen directs this translation by Bryan Doerries, produced by Phyllis Kaufman.
