The Howard County Arts Council will honor its 2012 Howie Award winners at the 16th Annual Celebration of the Arts on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at the Peter and Elizabeth Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center, Howard Community College, Columbia, MD. The Celebration gala gives members of Howard County's arts, education, government, and business communities the opportunity to gather to honor individuals and businesses that have made significant contributions to the arts in Howard County.

Take a little Greek tragedy, some Shakespearean comedy, a bit of O'Neill's 'Long Day's Journey' and maybe some Tennessee Williams, bring it to the Everyman Theatre's new Fayette Street stage and you have the recipe for brilliant entertainment--Tracy Letts' 'AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY,' now at the Everyman through Feb. 17th.

Iron Crow Theatre presents CHRISTMAS WITH THE CROWS, starring special guest Bruce Nelson and hosted by Sunrize Highway tonight, December 8, 2012 at 8:00 PM. Here in Baltimore, it seems to be Bus Stop season. It's been less than a month since I reviewed the Spotlighters' community theater production of the William Inge 1955 classic; now it's Center Stage's turn. And of course Center Stage (or is it Centerstage these days?) gives it a full-dress professional staging. The difference is surprisingly great.

Hometown favorite Bruce Nelson stars in this madcap, touching tale of the morbid life and mysterious final days of Baltimore's treasured emblem of oddness, Edgar Allan Poe. Previews begin tonight, October 17.

On Thursday, June 21, 2012, the Howard County Arts Council will host a special reception in conjunction with the Columbia Festival of the Arts. The reception will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Howard County Center for the Arts and will feature two gallery exhibits as well as an improv showcase and open artists' studios.

CENTERSTAGE will be joined by company members from Everyman and Single Carrot for free readings of the other two plays in Martin McDonagh's Leenane Trilogy, hosted by Liam Flynn's Ale House Sunday nights at 8 pm on January 22 and 29.
