THEATER TALK welcomes two of the key collaborators on the multi-Tony® nominated play Peter And The Starcatcher, now on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre - professional and personal partners Roger Rees, co-director of the acclaimed production with Alex Timbers, and Rick Elice, the play's writer, who adapted Peter and the Starcatchers, a "prequel" novelization (by David Barry and Ridley Pearson) to Peter Pan, the well-known J. M. Barrie story, for the stage.
For over nine months, the Harlem School of the Arts (HSA) has worked with Disney Theatrical Group to develop adaptations of Disney's musical The Lion King for young performers. Aubrey Lynch is an original cast member and former associate producer of the Broadway production, and he has been overseeing HAS's workshop presentations of Disney Theatrical Group's newest in-development musical for young people. This process has become a vehicle for HSA to further its mission and develop a fifth discipline, musical theatre.

As first reported by Deadline.com, Walt Disney Pictures is beginning development on a PETER AND THE STARCATCHER movie with writer Jesse Wigutow (The Crow).
Producers Nancy Nagel Gibbs, Greg Schaffert, Eva Price and Tom Smedes announced today that Rick Elice's new play, Peter and the Starcatcher, will embark on a national tour, opening in August 2013 at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in Denver, CO. The play's Tony Award-nominated directors, Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, will direct the touring production, which will be represented by The Road Company.

1,000 New York City public high school and middle school students from 16 schools, who are participating in TDF's Stage Doors Program, will be attending a special matinee performance of the new Tony Award-nominated play Peter and the Starcatcher on Thursday, May 10 at 2pm at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street, NYC).

Producers of the five-time Tony Award nominated hit musical ROCK OF AGES have announced that Ashley Spencer (Grease, Priscilla..) will star in the leading role of Sherrie - the "small town girl" who "took the midnight train goin' anywhere" - beginning Thursday, May 10 at Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre (220 W 44th Street). Emily Padgett, who has performed the role since November 2011, will play her final performance on Tuesday, May 1. During the interim week, the role will be covered alternately by Katie Webber and Tessa Alves.

The tour of the smash hit Broadway revival of WEST SIDE STORY is coming to Columbus, opening at the Ohio Theatre on Tuesday, April 17. Tony Award-winning librettist Arthur Laurents' Broadway direction will be recreated for the tour by David Saint, the Associate Director on Broadway. The original Jerome Robbins choreography is reproduced by Tony Award nominee Joey McKneely (The Boy from Oz, The Life).
