Lincoln Center announces an artist update for this weekend's closing Mostly Mozart Festival program this weekend, August 21 and 22. Thomas Cooley will replace Andrew Staples (who was to make his Festival debut) in singing the tenor part of Haydn's The Creation with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra at Avery Fisher Hall.

Lyric Opera of Chicago launches its new season with the 15th annual Stars of Lyric Opera at Millennium Park concert at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion on Friday, Sept. 11, at 7:30 p.m. The free outdoor performance, presented in cooperation with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, annually attracts capacity crowds of 16,000 to the pavilion, great lawn, and surrounding areas of the park.

Stravinsky's twentieth-century operatic masterpiece The Rake's Progress will return to the Met stage for a revival of three performances only, opening May 1 and continuing through May 9. Music Director James Levine leads the performances, with rising stars Paul Appleby and Layla Claire in the central roles of the carefree Tom Rakewell and his faithful sweetheart, Anne Trulove; Stephanie Blythe as Baba the Turk, the hot-tempered bearded lady whose life becomes entangled with Tom's; English bass Brindley Sherratt in his Met debut as Anne's father, Trulove; and Gerald Finley as Nick Shadow, the mysterious man who encourages Tom to trade respectability for a life of aimless pleasure.

The Handel and Haydn Society's historic Bicentennial Season reaches yet another milestone—the ensemble's 400th complete performance of George Frideric Handel's masterpiece Messiah. Premiered in full in the US by H+H in 1818 and performed for 161 consecutive years, Handel Messiah will receive its 400th performance during the weekend of November 28–30 at Symphony Hall. The holiday celebration continues with Holiday Sing, a participatory, family-friendly program of carols and choral music at Faneuil Hall's Great Hall, and A Bach Christmas, an intimate musical journey through Christmas past, from medieval plainchant to the 18th century.

H+H turns 200. The celebration continues with performances of historically significant works that H+H introduced to American audiences in the 19th century (Handel's Messiah, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Bach's St. Matthew Passion, and Haydn's Creation). The Bicentennial Season culminates in the spring and summer with an interactive exhibit at the Boston Public Library exploring H+H's history, a world premiere work by prominent American composer Gabriela Lena Frank, and a free outdoor performance of Beethoven's epic Ninth Symphony ('Ode to Joy').

New York's city-wide plans to celebrate the centenary of prolific UK composer Benjamin Britten will continue in 2014 when the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) stages the US première of Glyndebourne's critically acclaimed opera Billy Budd.

Glyndebourne's critically acclaimed production of Billy Budd has won the Best Revival award in the whatsonstage.com Opera Poll 2013. The win comes two days before the production makes its international debut in New York at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM).
