Today, Emily Reo has shared 'Balloon,' the latest single from her upcoming album, Only You Can See It. 'Balloon' is the record's most patiently unfolding mini-epic, one bursting with the enormous energy of an expanding heart; an ode to intuition and growth. It's a song that eventually floats upward as Reo's vocals criss-cross like a hypnotic choir-of-one, meditating on navigating multiple relationships, and the necessity of self-reliance as a prerequisite for them.

If you have ever attended an opera and thought 'all of these sets and costumes are so incredibly distracting' then Washington Concert Opera would be right up your alley. Stripping away the grandiose of an opera production, WCO presents their works in their most raw form: with just an orchestra, a chorus, and principles who sing their hearts out. This minimalist style isn't likely to convert opera skeptics, but it is a great way to deepen one's appreciation for the art form. Their most recent presentation of Charles Gounod's first opera, Sapho, benefits from some strong lead performances. It's just a shame that the libretto isn't better.

The Atlanta Opera opens the 2018-19 mainstage season with a production of Leonard Bernstein's classic Broadway musical, West Side Story. Francesca Zambello, General & Artistic Director of The Glimmerglass Festival and Artistic Director of Washington National Opera, who created this new production with Houston Grand Opera, The Glimmerglass Festival, and Lyric Opera of Chicago, will direct.

Gabby's World, the project of Gabrielle Smith (fka Eskimeaux, Ó), has shared 'Winter, Withdraw,' the opening track from her new album, Beast on Beast. The FADER, who premiered the song today are saying 'the electric rock track builds into a satisfying, stadium-sized finale.' Beast on Beast is available for pre-order now and due out November 2nd via Yellow K Records.

WCO kicks off the year with their second annual Opera Outside at Washington D.C.'s Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park on Oct 27th, followed by performances at Lisner Auditorium of Charles Gounod's Sapho on November 18th, 2018 and Gioachino Rossini's Zelmira on April 5th, 2019. GABI, the moniker of New York-based experimental singer and composer Gabrielle Herbst, has released 'Sleep,' the latest from her upcoming album, Empty Me. Gorilla vs Bear, who premiered the song today are calling it 'otherworldly... GABI's haunting operatic vocals are swathed by gorgeous instrumentation - a hypnotically twinkling piano line, dramatic harp and bass clarinet, Steve Hauschildt's starry synth, and GABI herself on drums for the first time - as her stirring refrain/mantra 'I sing to heal my head' soars in and out of the swirling production.'

Yes, it's still the Leonard Bernstein centennial and what better way to celebrate than at the Glimmerglass Festival with WEST SIDE STORY. It remains a unique creation, the collaboration of four geniuses: Bernstein himself, of course, Jerome Robbins (choreographer-director), Arthur Laurents (book) and then-newcomer Stephen Sondheim (lyricist/co-lyricist). Directed here with a deft hand by Francesca Zambello, the Festival's Artistic & General Director, and choreographed by Julio Monge

Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artist Eric Ferring was named a winner of the prestigious 2017 William Matheus Sullivan Foundation Singer Auditions earlier this week, where he earned a Career Development Grant. This is the third consecutive year a Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artist has won an award at the exclusive competition. Soprano Claudia Rosenthal won a Sullivan Award in 2016, and baritone Brian Vu did in 2015.

The Young People's Chorus of New York City (YPC), led by Artistic Director and Founder Francisco J. N ez, debuts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in the New York premiere of composer Ben Moore and librettist Kelley Rourke's Odyssey: A Youth Opera, an hour-long re-telling of Homer's epic. This new, fully staged and costumed production incorporates video imagery from the Museum's extensive collection including images of ancient Greek art and artifacts to create thematic links to the action on stage. The production is directed and choreographed by Eric Sean Fogel, with video and projection design by S. Katy Tucker. Three performances, presented as part of the Museum's MetLiveArts series, will be held at The Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium on Friday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 4 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
