LA Master Chorale Sings Brahms' GERMAN REQUIEM and Lieberson's THE WORLD IN FLOWER, 1/26 & 27

The Los Angeles Master Chorale captures the shared human experience with a pairing of Brahms' sublime Ein Deutsches Requiem and the West Coast premiere of The World in Flower, Peter Lieberson's lyrical and moving message of tolerance written in memory of his wife and muse, famed mezzo-soprano Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, with whom the Chorale performed Adam's El Niño in Los Angeles and New York.

Today, September 25, 2012, Deutsche Grammophon releases Mahler 8 Symphony of a Thousand featuring Gustavo Dudamel, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela. Available for purchase on standard DVD and Blu-Ray, as well as on iTunes, the video features the culminating concert of The Mahler Project, Mahler's Eighth Symphony, "Symphony of a Thousand" recorded live at the Teatro Teresa Carreño in Caracas, Venezuela, on February 18, 2012.

Canadian Opera Company Closes Season at 91% Attendance

The Canadian Opera Company has closed another successful opera season with 2011/2012 recording an average attendance of 91%. A total of 125,238 patrons attended the 67 performances of the company's seven mainstage productions in the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts: Gluck's Iphigenia in Tauris, Verdi's Rigoletto, Puccini's Tosca, Saariaho's Love from Afar, Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann, the double bill of Zemlinsky's A Florentine Tragedy and Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, and Handel's Semele.

LA Phil Presents UK Screenings of Mahler's SYMPHONY OF A THOUSAND in London, Bristol & More

The Los Angeles Philharmonic (LA Phil) and Omniverse Vision Ltd. announced today that the critically-acclaimed performance featuring world-renowned Music Director Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil, LA Phil LIVE: Dudamel conducts Mahler 8, "Symphony of a Thousand," will be broadcast to movie theaters in six locations in the UK, beginning April 16.

Ravinia Festival Announces 2012 Season: Idina Menzel, Barbara Cook & More!

Ravinia Festival President and CEO Welz Kauffman announced the festival's 2012 season, which offers more than 100 separate events exemplifying most musical genres, including the 77th residency of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The summer boasts a variety of music's legends from Philip Glass to James Taylor, along with 43 debuts, including Glee and Wicked star Idina Menzel, reggae master Jimmy Cliff, classic rocker Santana, Grammy-and-Oscar sensation Esperanza Spalding, and Musical America's "conductor of the year" Jaap van Zweden. Ravinia Music Director James Conlon celebrates the 35th anniversary of his own festival debut as his contract is extended through 2014.

George London Foundation Presents Lisette Oropesa and Brian Mulligan, 4/1

The George London Foundation for Singers culminates its 2011-12 season of events with a recital by two young George London Award-winning opera stars: soprano Lisette Oropesa, who will sing the role of Gilda in the Metropolitan Opera's new production of Rigoletto next season, and tenor Brian Mulligan, who sings the title role of Nixon in China in the San Francisco Opera's company premiere of the work in June, perform a recital program with pianist Ken Noda at The Morgan Library & Museum on Sunday, April 1, 2012, at 5:00 PM.
