The Triad and Lee Summers hosted the 'Just A Piano Open Mic Launch: A Benefit For Haiti' last night, January 31st. The 'Just A Piano' concept broadened for this series inviting singers to also bring accompanists or pre-recorded tracks, musical instruments or play on The Triad's recently refurbished baby grand. All proceeds from the event were donated to The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund and The American Red Cross.
Two Boots Pizza in Hells Kitchen celebrated the SLICE OF BROADWAY honoring the Broadway cast of MEMPHIS with a specialty slice entitled 'Huey's Bad Boy' - Pulled pork, red onions, Dancing Pig BBQ sauce from Memphis, and topped with homemade cole slaw. Cast members from MEMPHIS, along with BroadwayWorld, were on hand to enjoy in the tasty dedication.

Today, December 29, Charmin teamed up with non-profit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS to present 'Bathrooms over Broadway,' the first-ever Broadway show in a bathroom. The 10-15 minute 'cheeky' musical production took place, free-of-charge, before a live audience at the Charmin Restrooms featuring the theatrics of several well-known Broadway stars, including 'Shrek the Musical's' Christopher Sieber.
The Toxic Avenger made a special appearance at The Pond at Bryant Park yesterday, December 22, to greet fans and serenade the chilly holiday skaters. As reported yesterday, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn, Signature Theatre Company Founding Artistic Director James Houghton and Related Companies Executive Vice President Bruce A. Beal Jr. announced a $60 million partnership to create a new home for the Signature Theater company. The Frank Gehry-designed Signature Center will be part of Related Companies' $800 million, 59-story, residential building and hotel on 42nd Street and 10th Avenue in the heart of the theater district. The building will provide more than 800 new housing units, including more than 160 that will be targeted to low-income families. The performing arts center will feature three intimate and distinct theatres, rehearsal studios, a café, bookstore and administrative offices, and will allow Signature to more than double its audience, with anticipated attendance of more than 80,000. The LEED-Silver building will create 700 construction jobs and is expected to be completed in 2011, with the Signature Center expected to be completed in 2012.
