RIALTO CHATTER: Spidey's 'Web Side Story' Sneak Peek

It became official when, SPIDER-MAN, Turn Off the Dark, was announced to open on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Broadway's Hilton Theatre, 213 West 42nd Street (preview performances will begin Saturday, January 16, 2010). Directed by Tony Award-winner Julie Taymor with 22-time Grammy Award-winning Bono and The Edge creating new music and lyrics, SPIDER-MAN will be written by Julie Taymor and Glen Berger. Well 'True Believers', since that official statement, the 'webslinging' work has heated up, and the creative process is in full 'swing' (forgive us the pun, but c'mon...).

Crowley, Long Receive TDF/Irene Sharaff Award 3/27

Legendary designers WILLIAM IVEY LONG and BOB CROWLEY are among the four recipients of 2009 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards to be presented at a ceremony this Friday, March 27 at 6:30pm, at the Hudson Theatre (145 West 44th Street). Five-time Tony Award winning costume designer William Ivey Long will receive the 2009 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for theatrical costume design, and, for his achievements as both a costume and scenic designer, Bob Crowley (also a five-time Tony Award winner) will receive the TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards' special Robert L. B. Tobin Award for Lifetime Achievement in Theatrical Design.

Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada used his 'Twitter' feed to comment on the upcoming musical 'SPIDER-MAN, Turn Off the Dark'. Quesada, a comic industry icon, excitedly stated that 'Spider-Man at it's core is a very 'classic' story in structure. Done well as it will be by Taymor. Bono and Edge, it will ROCK!' Acclaimed director Ken Sawyer (The Woman in Black) brings his own vision (and additional scenes from Bram Stoker's original novel), to this adaptation which is a darker and sexier take on the legendary story; a tale of an evil ages old and yet forever new. Lucy Seward, whose mother is the doctor in charge of an English sanitorium, has been attacked by some mysterious illness. Dr. Van Helsing, a specialist, believes that the girl is the victim of a vampire, who is at last, found to be one Count Dracula - whose ghost is only able to be laid to rest in a particularly striking manner. Staring: Rob Arbogast as Dracula, Joe Hart as Van Helsing, Darcy Martin as Lucy, J.R. Mangels as Jonathan Harker, Alex Robert Holmes as Renfield, Karesa McElheny as Dr. Seward, Mara Marini as Min, Tahni Delong as the Maid and Chad Coe as the Attendant. Dracula previews on Saturday, February 7 at 8pm; Sunday, February 8 at 3pm; Wednesday, February 11 at 8pm, Thursday, February 12 at 8pm and will open on Friday, February 13 at 8pm and will run for six weeks through Sunday, March 22 at the NoHo Arts Center, 11136 Magnolia Blvd. (at Lankershim) in North Hollywood.
