Weekend Movie Box Office Update: August 14 - August 20, 2009

Superstar comedian/actor Will Ferrell is set for to star in DreamWorks Animation's 'Oobermind,' according to Variety. Ferrell will lend his voice to the new feature film, opposite Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill and Tina Fey.

Old Globe Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced the complete cast and creative team for the world premiere of Sammy, a new musical based on the life of Sammy Davis, Jr. with book, music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse, and additional songs by Bricusse and Anthony Newley. Directed by Keith Glover with choreography by Keith Young and music supervision by Ian Fraser, Sammy will run in the Old Globe Theatre Sept. 19 - Nov. 8. Previews run from Sept. 19 - Oct. 1. Opening night is Oct. 2 at 8:00 p.m.

Tony winner Billy Crudup has joined the cast of the new Columbia Pictures film 'Eat, Pray, Love,' an adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's best-selling memoir. Crudup will appear alongside Julia Roberts, Javier Bardem and Richard Jenkins, according to trade paper Variety.

Nicola and Managing Director William Russo have announced that Things of Dry Hours, written by Naomi Wallace and directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson, will begin performances Friday, May 22, at NYTW, 79 East 4th Street, between Second Avenue and Bowery. Opening night is scheduled for Monday, June 8 at 7:00pm. The production will run through Sunday, June 28.

Named one of Time magazines ?100 Innovators for the Next New Wave,? playwright Suzan-Lori Parks will speak at Vassar College on Monday, April 6. The program, free and open to the public, will begin at 6pm in the second floor of the Students? Building. A question-and-answer session will follow the hour-long lecture.

DC audiences thrilled to Cody Green's dynamic performance as 'Riff' in the production. Before Cody left Washington for New York, he spoke to DCTheatreScene.com. Cody Green was chosen as the winner in last years finale episode of BRAVO's 'Step It Up & Dance,' winning the $100,000 grand prize. The 27-year-old dancer from Surrey, Canada beat out 11 other contestants as they competed in weekly dance challenges from some of the top performers and choreographers in the industry including: Tina Landon, Jordi Caballero, Lee Martino and Jason Alexander.
