Award-winning vocalist, songwriter, arranger and composer/lyricist Amy Engelhardt returns to Don't Tell Mama for her first completely solo show in New York City on May 11 at 7PM. My Own Devices is a collection of songs by turns poignant, pithy and... downright goofy, from her upcoming CD of the same name, plus choice eclectic covers and selections from her award-winning debut CD, Not Gonna Be Pretty ('A rare and intelligent edge in wordsmithery...' - Metroland Magazine).
In Marc Palmieri's comedy, The Groundling, Long Island landscaper Bob Malone has been infected by the writing bug: after accidentally wandering into a low-rent production of Shakespeare's Love's Labor's Lost, he feels compelled to write his own verse play about his troubled marriage. He pays a desperate New York director to make actors out of his landscape crew in order to present a single performance in the garage for friends and family - if only Bob's angry wife doesn't run them all over with the Land Rover first.

Marc Palmieri has a reputation for writing heartfelt and unsettling plays. Time Out New York writes, 'When Palmieri lets his imagination cut loose, the results can be evocative.' In a Critic's Pick review of Levittown, Palmieri's compelling depiction of the small and quiet dramas of American family life, The New York Times declared, 'you won't stop watching for a second.' Now, Axis Company presents the world premiere of Palmieri's latest play The Groundling, February 11 - March 8, 2015.
On November 8th, they kick off their tour of Southwestern cities including Boulder, Denver, Albuquerque, Sedona, Tempe, Tucson, and Julian, CA; they'll be joined by the Finzer Mahoney Duo for the dates in New Mexico and Arizona.

Keyboard hurricane Bob Malone and composer/lyricist/comedienne Amy 'Bob' Engelhardt return to the Duplex with a brand new edition of TWO BOBS, NO WAITING on April 12. Their hilarious, high-energy evening of songs and stories from all over the map (which, between them, they have certainly covered) garnered three 2012 BroadwayWorld.com New York Cabaret Award nominations.
Wow, talk about a thumbs up! BroadwayWorld.com Cabaret Reviewer/Columnist Stephen Hanks received such a positive reaction to his '2012 Best of New York Cabaret' piece posted yesterday that we thought it would be fun for him to add to his original 13 "honorable mentions" list. So, here for your holiday week reading pleasure is Part 2 of his "Best" and "Most" Honorable Mentions in Cabaret for 2012 with 21 new listings (because an even 20 would be trite). Enjoy!
After receiving more than 3,000 nominations once BroadwayWorld.com announced it's first-ever New York Cabaret Awards in early October, BWW is now pleased to announce it's final nominations ballot in 20 categories. Now it's time for all you cabaret performers and fans to vote for the best singers, musicians and shows of the year. Voting will continue until December 31 and winners will be announced in early January.
One of the best of the recent dynamic duos to hit the New York cabaret scene may be the songwriting/performing team of Mary Liz McNamara and Ritt Henn, who recently brought their cheeky and charming show Take That! back to The Duplex after debuting last November.
