Mandel JCC Launches Annual Book Fair During November And December

Lois Steinberg, Chair of the Mandel JCC Book Festival today announced 2016-2017 Festival will begin with four different events in November and December. At each event, the author of the featured book will be on hand to discuss his/her work and respond to comments and questions from the audience.

Fisher Center Publishes First Educational Book, WHY CAN'T GRANDMA REMEMBER MY NAME?

NEW YORK, Nov. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ Today, the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation is proud to announce the launch of a book, Why Can't Grandma Remember My Name?, written by the Foundation's President, Kent L. Karosen, and co-authored by Chana Stiefel. The book explains Alzheimer's disease using artwork created by children juxtaposed with art created by Alzheimer's patients, demonstrating the power of art therapy for all ages and a way for parents and family to share with a younger audience what is happening to Grandma or other loved ones.

Photo Flash: Apollo Theater Hosts Spring Gala, Featuring LL Cool J, Prince Tribute & More

 Last evening, the Apollo Theater celebrated its 11th Annual Spring Gala raising $1.7M for its year-round artistic and community programming initiatives.  The concert portion of the evening was hosted by LL COOL J, and opened with the dynamic dancing duo Laurent & Larry Bourgeois of Les Twins.  The concert also featured performances by legendary R&B group, The O'Jays including rousing version of Love Train, The Backstabbers, For the Love of Money and more.  Rising star vocalist, Leon Bridges brought the crowd to its feet with a performance of Mustang Sally and vocalist Andra Day performed her hit song City Burns,followed by a touching performance of Unforgettable in tribute to legendary songstress Natalie Cole. Host LL COOL J also joined DJ D-Nice for a tribute to Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest - one of several iconic artists lost in 2016.

A new, juried costume contest will be the centerpiece of this year's 3rd annual Bloomsday Breakfast celebration at Midtown's Bloom's Tavern, 208 East 58th Street, on Thursday June 16 beginning at 8am.

Fashion Musical SHOES AND BAGGAGE Begins Previews Tonight Off-Broadway

Nancy Manocherian's the cell presents the World Premiere of SHOES & BAGGAGE, a one-woman musical about the 'high of the buy.' It is written and performed by Broadway veteran Cheryl Stern (La Cage Aux Folles, The Women) with music by Drama Desk nominee Tom Kochan (Almost, Maine). Directed by Joe Barros, previews begin tonight, May 5, at the cell with opening slated for Thursday, May 12. This limited engagement is produced on an Off-Broadway contract.

Original RENT Cast Members to Join Marfan Foundation in Honoring Jonathan Larson

Daphne Rubin-Vega, Fredi Walker-Brown, and Wilson Heredia lead a group of two dozen singers who appeared in various productions of the award-winning show, RENT, in a tribute to playwright Jonathan Larson as he is posthumously awarded The Marfan Foundation's Hero with a Heart Award at the Foundation's Heartworks gala on April 14. Heredia originated the role of "Angel" in the Tony Award-winning production of RENT; Rubin-Vega portrayed "Mimi" in the original Broadway cast; and Walker-Brown was the original "Joanne."

Tony Winner Laura Benanti to Join Jennifer Holliday for 42West Concert Next Week

Jacob Langfelder in partnership with Arts-For-All, Jill Bernard and Rashad Chambers will present a one night only concert featuring TONY and Grammy Award winner Jennifer Holliday along with the TONY Winning star of the upcoming Roundabout Theatre production of She Loves Me, Laura Benanti and The Color Purple¹s Rema Webb.
