Following last month's announcement of the incoming Jerome and Many Voices Fellows, the Playwrights' Center is pleased to introduce the 2016-17 McKnight National Residency and Commission recipient, two 2016-17 McKnight Fellows in Playwriting, six new Core Writers and three 2016-17 Core Apprentices. McKnight Theater Artist Fellows will be announced in June.
The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) (Ty Jones, Producing Artistic Director; David Roberts, Managing Director), will open its spring season with their 2nd Annual Spring Fundraiser, April 11, 2016. An intimate evening of music featuring the breathtaking vocals of Mykal Kilgore, most recently seen at CTH as Benny Raindrop in The Classical Theatre of Harlem's original musical, The First Noel at The Apollo Theater, and NBC's The Wiz Live. The Classical Theatre of Harlem's 2016 season is rounded out with its yearly free Uptown Shakespeare in the Park production of Macbeth in the summer, a new production of Fit For the Queen by renowned playwright Betty Shamieh, its ongoing monthly Reading Series, and the Apollo Theater mainstage production of The First Noel.

The season includes the West Coast premiere of Our Enemies: Lively Scenes of Love and Combat by award-winning playwright Yussef El Guindi, the most produced writer in Golden Thread history (directed by Founding Artistic Director Torange Yeghiazarian, October 28-November 20, 2016), and the world premiere of The Most Dangerous Highway in the World by Kevin Artigue, the first playwright of non-Middle Eastern descent produced on the company's mainstage (directed by Director of Marketing and New Plays Evren Odcikin, May 5-29, 2016). Both plays will be presented at the Thick House in San Francisco. New Threads staged reading series returns in June and July of 2016, introducing four singular voices to the Bay Area: Tariq Hamami, Ken Kaissar, Hannah Khalil, and Novid Parsi. Golden Thread's annual celebration of International Women's Day, What Do the Women Say?, returns on March 12, 2016 to the La Peña Cultural Center. This year's program features four Bay Area women artists who have built a stronger Middle Eastern community through their art: Taraneh Hemami, Nabila Mango, Sharlyn Sawyer, and Betty Shamieh, and will include a musical performance by Aswat Women's Choir. Golden Thread Fairytale Players continues to tour Bay Area schools and libraries throughout the year, presenting dynamic and colorful plays for all ages inspired by Middle Eastern folktales. This year's program is a celebration of pioneering Bay Area women artists who have built community through their art.
Theatre Communications Group (TCG) is pleased to announce the publication of Inside/Outside: Six Plays from Palestine and the Diaspora, edited by Naomi Wallace and Ismail Khalidi.
The monologues will be read at a public reading tonight, November 6, 2014 following the 8:00 p.m. performance. The writers will also receive a session with American Voices New Play Institute Dramaturg Jocelyn Clarke, a listing in the Our War program and an award certificate. The finished monologues along with video clips of the performed monologues will be posted on Arena Stage's website and shared via social media.
