BWW Review: Radvanovsky Tears Up the Stage in MARIA STUARDA at the Met

With MARIA STUARDA at the Met, we're back for the second installment of Donizetti's so-called Tudor Trilogy, with ANNA BOLENA (Anne Boleyn) already off to the gallows and ROBERTO DEVEREUX (with Bette Davis and Errol Flynn, it was “Elizabeth and Essex”) still to come. It's the first time the Met is doing all three operas, with the singular soprano Sondra Radvanovsky as Anna, Maria and Elisabetta (in DEVEREUX, next month). Her Anna was grand, but her Maria was even better.

In FELIZ NAVIDIVA, Kay Sedia (the self-proclaimed size 2, 18-year-old alter ego of Oscar Quintero) - hysterically regales her attentive audience in a quick one-hour set with her recent childhood stories of Christmases growing up in Tijuana. BWW Review: Seattle Rep's JINKX MONSOON & MAJOR SCALES: UNWRAPPED a Smashed Hit

Cynical tributes to the holidays can easily fall into cliches, feeling as stale as the fruitcake they mock, but Seattle Repertory Theatre's Jinkx Monsoon & Major Scales: Unwrapped was a bejeweled middle finger to Christmas that, ultimately, was touchingly sincere. Back by popular demand, the drag duo Jinkx Monsoon (Jerrick Hoffer) and Major Scales (Richard Andriessen) ask you to sit back, kick back your stilettos, and enjoy a swig (or ten) of brandy from the turkey baster.
